So i was playing with my wizard and summoned a mindflayer with my shiny new toy, and examined it. I was interested to find out that it was getting buffed by my augment summons :) I am wondering if other item summoned monsters get that, or if the shard is special, or if its just not wai? If its wai and effects any item summoned monster then it certainly makes augment summons more attractive imho!

this would be really fun if you had a bunch of summons, and had a way to keep them alive.
was there a summon mass in dnd? that would be amazingly fun

Making a mindflayer a bit more attractive doesn't help. They're still terribly ugly :D
It's widely known that Augment Summoning also affects things like Hirelings, so my guess is it extends to all summons like that as well, including those summoned from wands or gear. Enjoy the new more powerful critters!

Works also with charmed hounds in HoX

Well, its not just widely known, its in its description lol. Charmed, summoned and hirelings all get the benefit, but I was to understand that it didn't apply to item summons any more than other feats apply to spells cast from items... if it does it'll be shiny. I am especially interested to find out if it works on the oozes summoned from sundering ooze guard hehe, after all oozes really need that +4 intelligence they would be getting lol.

Dunno for sure about oozzes, but yeah, any item. For ultra nastiness while leveling: take the % failure chance on a scroll higher than you can actually cast and use that (Though be advised, if you do fail, that still uses the old 10 minute lockout at time of writing). Also works with create undead.

In D&D you could summon 1d3 mobs from previous version of spell. or 1d4+1 from 2 lvls lower. For example, you could cast summon monster VII to summon 1 efreet, 1d3 fiendish trolls or 1d4+1 medium earth elementals.
