Question about Vibrant Purple Ioun Stone

Last night I was running with my guildie and we were running Irestone Inlet. As we were getting ready to go back in again, there was a little flurry about people asking/wanting to buy this stone. It wasnt anything out of the ordinary, people were asking if anyone had one to sell. I have always seen people asking for these but never having even seen one, I didnt give it another thought as we started the quest.

So we are fighting our way through and we came up to the chest that is right next to Yaryar's ship. We pop the chest and you can prollly guess what popped up for me in the chest...yep I got the Vibrant ioun stone. We spend time laughing about this because as we just saw people looking for them. What also made it funny is that I have NEVER played a character involved with magic in all my time in DnD. I have never understood the things involved with magic and spells and the like. I have only ever played melee so to say Im lost here would be an understatement

So know I have this item and I know nothing about it. I went to the wiki site but cant access it for some reason so I thought I would post here looking for help. I appreciate any help or info on this

When it is unsurpressed it gains spell penetration IX and Archmagi (+200 sp).

Spell penetration IX is hard enough to find - it's on a few items in the game:
Eardweller (Minor), trinket
Hryiwi123sd8fo23's (Spelling may be incorrect) Medallion (Taint of Evil), necklace.
Vibrant Purple Ioun Stone

The Ioun stone has no drawbacks, better spell pen than the eardweller, and doesn't compete with the Torc in the neck slot

+200 (or 400 if Fvs or sorc) sp and spell pen 9 if you unlock the supressed power. Very nice item, you're a rich man if you sell it!

Just remember not to equip it or it's btc! lol I did that with the first ioun stone I pulled way back when.

The stone you have isnt all that great in its current form. The stone can be upgraded in the Dream Forge, which is located in the end quest in the Dreaming Dark pack. Once upgraded the stone is very powerful for casters; it has archmagi (+200 sp) and spell pen ix on it with a minimum lvl of 5. The stone is nice for high level characters and is great for leveling up a TR.

I have two Vibrant Purple Ioun Stones, one on a FvS, one on a Wizard, with both being unsuppressed via Dreamforge.
The biggest plus for this stone is that, while it is nothing special at all when suppressed, it is awesome once you throw it in the Dreamforge.
It becomes an archmagi item (+200sp, +400 on a FvS/Sor) with spell penetration 9 also thrown in, on a trinket slot.... and it can be equipped on a level 5 toon! Perfect for any magic-using TR. It does become BtC though...

Don't let anyone swindle you for this item, if you're not going to use it yourself.
The trade value of this item is high, look for something in the millions-of-plat, multiple LDS, FRDS, etc, because it is not about what he ioun stone IS, it's about what it becomes.

Wow

I had heard some things but didnt really realize how good this item is. I would have never thought this. I have to say, sad as it may sound, this is the first real top item I hvae ever found in the game and I have been playing for over a year. I guess I finally got a little luck for a change. I have tohught about setting up a sorcerer simply because I am becoming bored with the game but I am guessing i will prolly just sell it in the long run because of what I mentioned about magic before.

I was VERY careful with it when I got it. First thing I did after the quest was over was run to the bank and VERY carefully put it in my shared bank. I didnt know what I had but I wasnt going to take any chances :D
