I have a problem with all of my UI items migrating towards the top and center of the screen when I go into windowed mode. When I switch back to full screen they stay there and do not go back to the original position. The more times I switch, the further they move.

There may be a term for this but I do not know what it is.

I have searched for an answer on this but couldn't find anything, am not sure if this is a game or a windows setting.
If there is any kind of fix/solution for this or to prevent it from happening I would really appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks!

I get this too and don't know how to avoid it.
What I can tell you is that the positions of the UI objects are stored on the server (not client).
e.g. I log into DDO on a laptop the UI gets rearranged to fit the smaller resolution/screen.
Then I log back onto my Desktop you can see the UI still has kept the positioning of the laptop screen (all squashed up).

I play windowed all the time but I had a custom startup batch file. I recently switched video cards and noticed that the hotbars on the top of the screen were gradually moving up (but not left <-> right). I since solved that by not using my startup batch - I'll get around to fixing it one day (it would appear the windowed resolution in the batch file is different from what the server remembered).

I think it has to do with the XY positions of the hotbars which, of course, don't change when the resolution changed. SirAggravator mentions this. If you aren't switching your resolutions around a lot it shouldn't matter.

I haven't played around with locking the hotbars to see if it would make any difference. I tend to switch mine around too much to bother locking them.

I am not changing resolution just switching in and out of windowed mode. I have the resolution for window and full screen set the same, my desktop is the same as well.

This happens to me sometimes too. Not always, but sometimes, very random. Have no idea how to fix it. So hopefully somebody knows.

Here is a link to a thread on the subject. There doesn't seem to be any developer interest in the problem.

Changing between windowed and fullscreen changes the resolution. Just not in an advertised way. It would be nice if it didn't.

Thanks everyone for your input and for the link Ogre.
It seems there is not a whole lot to be done with it, will try out a few things and see what happens.
Will let you know if I come up with something to end problem.
Thanks again.

For many setups this can be true, particularly if as you say it's an window/fullscreen issue. For my particular setup, I believe not. DDO fullscreen is at 1366x768, my desktop is at 1366x768. Alt-tabbing shouldn't be changing ddo's display res in any way. Now, there may be a dx9 event taking place in between/during the alt-tab, I dunno, but that shouldn't affect ddo's memory page or whatever... Plus, I should hope that each UI element has an anchor pixel of some sort, and that that point's screen position is recorded somewhere. There's no logical reason to allow ui elements to creep.

Anyhoooo, it's an annoyance, not gamebreaking, but it should be looked at and fixed.

as it removes the 'window' from the usable resolution. That is why the bars move, there is less space, mostly at top and bottom, but even a little on the sides.

Only way to 'fix' it atm is to move them back when you go back to full screen, or play in window mode all the time (not much issue if your full screen and window resolutions are the same, but personal preference).

I play in window mode on both my machines (desktop and laptop) so I can keep the resolution the same and my stuff doesn't move around, but that's just me.
