View Full Version : Can't Upgrade Prefix and Suffix?

So I just hit lvl 63 divine, made my holy burst and GLOB shards to apply to my 2 silver longswords (+4 holy of LOB).
I applied the shards of potential no problem, both are now +12.
But it says I have to re-key to upgrade the suffix and prefix. Maybe I'm stupid but I was certain you could upgrade the shards without full deconstruction. Is that not true? Was it ever? I guess I thought so because I have previously added enhancement bonuses after prefix/suffix shards. What a bummer if I was mistaken, not I have to remake all those shards of potential, which are NOT cheap.
Lame
Never mind some lovely person just told me how.

To change prefix/suffix, yes you have to disjunct the item again.

Absolutely false. You just have to go to your options menu, click gameplay and check the "disable crafting overwrite message" box.
However, the item will count both the new AND the old shards when determining the total potential of the item. You should overwrite a current shard with a +0 shard first, to avoid this problem (replace the +0 shard last).

You can overwrite pre and suffix. Just go into options and turn of the warning.

SO this might already be known at large but I'll write it here for PSA sake:
If you have an item (in my case a +4 Holy of LOB) and you want to upgrade to say holy burst and GLOB be careful.
I added potential shards to take it +12 (level required for +4 holy burst of greater LOB). I used the trick of turning off overwrite messages in crafting under Gameplay: Options.
It allowed me to apply GLOB making it +10. I had 2 left over to apply the holy burst shard. However, I then was given an error stating the new upgrade would go over the current max level, which of course it would not.
So, I don't know if the problem would have been fixed if I had upgraded to +13 or +14 before trying to apply the holy burst shard, or if it's just borked completely. But at least for now, understand you cannot upgrade suffix and prefix even within enchantment level spec without this stupid error ruining all the work and essences you've put in to date. You're much better off just re-keying. Shards of potential 5-12 is A LOT of essences. I think about 1200 or so. You've been warned.

nope. apparently not if you're max enchantment level matches perfectly with the end enchantment level. I am trying to go from +10 to +12 on a weapon keyed for +12. It only let me upgrade one time then it decided in error the enchantment level was too high.
Stupid beta system eating my mats. HIRE SOME QC Turbine and stop making us pay find your bugs!

Just apply Fire Touch, Acid Touch, Cold Touch, or Shocking Touch. That will overwrite Holy and drop the total down enough for you to add Holy Burst.

Overwrite the prefix to a +0 first.
However, the DEVS should make note, and compute the end enchantment level properly. Replacing a +5 with a +7 does not make it +12.

Thank you very much for the explanation.

When you re-key for crafting, does it also clear the Shards of Potential upgrades?

As posted several times elsewhere in the crafting forums, I will attempt to explain this problem.
When you are overriding an effect on a crafted weapon, it will add the potential of your new shard to the total potential of your previous crafted item BEFORE removing the shard that you are replacing. If your potential is not high enough for this to happen, it will give you an error messege.
In order to bypass this happening and needing to re-key your item and start from scratch, simply apply a "touch" effect (fire touch, cold touch, etc). The "touch" effect counts as a "zero" potential and will replace Holy (or other prefix), and thereby dropping your weapon's total potential. You shoudl then be able to uprade the weapon to your liking. I suggest making all upgrades BEFORE changing the "touch" effect to holy burst (or other prefix).

Correct, the bugged device tries still counts the old shard in the potential.
Workaround is to overwrite with a shard like fire touch.
(or just raise the potential)

Thanks, been trying to find the older thread that explains how to fix the ML bug (and what causes it). This will do nicely :D

Well the game play options menu doesn't have that checkbox anymore. And on 2 scans of the UI options menu, i didn't see it there either. How do i upgrade prefix/suffix now?

The devs changed it, you can no longer overwrite.
Meaning all the shards you spent getting your weapons to +13 potential are now a total loss.
Very stupid if you ask me.
