Thanks for taking the time to read this. I have been playing DDO for about a month, and love it ( I have been playing paper since it was called just D&D, not AD&D). I recently leveled one of my toons and equipped him with a short bow of Paralysis. I love that bow! One of my guildys gave me another longbow of sonic thunder (prefix) +5 with lesser humanoid bane (suffix). It is also +5 craftable.
I want to take the bow is craftable and put Paralysis on it with a lightning and shock damage (think of a lightning bolt striking a person, damage and can't move). I have asked a lot of people in game and TRIED to read up on the subject of crafting. Some people say you can't craft an item with Paralysis, some say you can. After reading all different websites and forums, I don't know what to believe. The closest I have gotten myself is that you need an arcane shard(?) for the Paralysis and an upgrade shard to further increase the bonuses.
I am not even sure how to begin deconstructing the shortbow (dust of disjunction?) and add it to the longbow that is craftable. Sorry if this sounds confusing, but this is all I got so far, LOL!
I would appreciate ANY help I can get.

Paralysis is not a craftable ability. You can see all the craftable effects (by gear) in the link in my signature,

It probably will be in the future when crafting levels go over 100.

It probably will be in the future when crafting levels go over 100.No shards have ever been added before, so there is no reason to think any will be added in the future.
For example, Metalline was always in the crafting system since day 1 even though it didn't get unlocked until the levels were expanded to 100. Paralysis has never been and still is not now in the crafting system.
That's not to say it can't be added, but there is no reason to think it will be.

It would be odd to think that they would add a system like this and tag it as still in beta if they didn't plan to adjust the system and add new things as they go along.

True, but they also had all of them programmed in so they could just "turn them on" just like the new quest pack. U11 should be a physical update with an opportunity to add more shards.

Right. Aside from hotfixes, we haven't had any actual client downloads since Update 9.0, which (secretly) contained all the crafting levels and shards we can now see. At some point, we'll likely see higher level effects, bug fixes (minimum levels on weapons are not working as intended), et cetera, but we'll need to download some new updates for that to even be possible. =)
edit: some more direct feedback for the original questions.
Dust of Disjunction would turn your shortbow into a "Shortbow" with no special abilities and the ability to add crafted shards. This would remove the paralyzing ability forever.
You could instead consume the paralyzing ability directly, but that would only get you a few crafting essences. You would need a LOT of essences for this project, both to actually make whatever shards you want to add to your bow (and the Shards of Potential to raise it above a +5 maximum), and to level up your crafting skills to the point where you can make those shards.
Your best bet for now is to check the Auction House for bows that have Paralyzing and whatever other features you like, and possibly to combine them with Shock or Holy (or whatever) arrows for extra damage.

While I must agree that the affixes we have seen int the application machine initially are still the sum of what we see now, we were told then that that was simply what we were being presented to begin tinkering with, way back on lamannia with a cap of 50.
Where I must disagree is that we had no unbound shards or machines.
In a literal sense we have had a few hundred shards added to fulfil that aspect.
Additionally we have had a few shards modified in the interim, beyond simple enable/disable in one machine or another. I think it was everbright they consolidated for instance, at least according to one set of release notes.
You will also find an affix by level list on the compendium that includes tier 7 effects, many of which are of the type not yet seen by the playerbase in craftable context.

Great points about the hotfixes. There has been at least one physical client upgrade (when they fixed Red Fens) but yeah, there hasn't been much opportunity to download new recipes in the last couple updates.

It's actually fairly strange, initially the page was the compendium entry listing affixes linked at the bottom of the cannith crafting guide.
The linked list is still there, but it's no longer a one page huge list of all arcane divine and elemental, it's now split into three parts and some effects are missing(although there's still a great deal more then we have) and it reads like a disenchant type/level index. I checked the history but it only lists the initial posting by Tolero.
Guessing they swapped which page is linked to a new version, which is kind of annoying.
Ah well still useful as a general guide to affixes considered in the system. Probably not worth spending the time mining google hard to try to find the other version again :/ .

Maybe I missed something, are the finished items now also unbound? I thought only the shards where? (I admit, I haven't been in the crafting hall since update 10 was turned on).
