youll do more dps with unarmed fighting with a pure monk. unless you are going for a flavor build, there are better ways to go about a quarterstaff fighter. the big fing stick build comes to mind.

Generally, Monks are discouraged from using Quarterstaves as some of their best abilities only work unarmed: Stunning Fist, TOD, Quivering Palm. Monks also receive none of the attack bonus penalties from TWF, but all of the benefits, and full Str damage on each fist.

However situational use of Quarterstaves can be helpful - eg. in lower levels the extra damage bonus from Power Attack is nice. Or if you don't have ghost touch handwraps, or aren't high enough level to have adamantine fists, etc.

If interested in a Monk-ish type of build that can make good use of Quarterstaves, have you considered the 'Big F'N Stick' build? It is a Thief Acrobat that splashes Monk and very, very fun. Also I use Quarterstaves sometimes on a Kensai Unarmed (Bludgeoning) Fighter (situationally, most of the time being able to use Stunning Fist works better)

Though it may not be max DPS, you can do decent damage using Rahl's Might along with Earth Stance. Assuming you're also going light monk, quite a few of your special moves will still work while holding a staff. As a dark monk it's not as attractive, as ToD only works unarmed. If you go 12 monk / 6 rogue then you can benefit from both earth stance crit multiplier and acrobat speed boost to quarterstaves. Flavor build obviously, but nothing wrong with that.

Rogue / monk is a popular combo for staff builds; Acrobat provides +10% atk speed per tier and adds DEX bonus to SA dmg; while monk provides stances, monk strikes, etc.

Go acro rogue for better result.

Power Critical only adds to your critical confirmation roll. In DDO conditions it is almost always useless.

If you're not going to take Ninja Spy or use Touch of Death, there's not much reason to go dark side.

If you want to use a staff, build an acrobat.

If you want to build a monk, use handwraps.

^^ I approve this message. Pure monks should not use quarterstaves as main dps weapons.

13 Rogue 6 monk 1 fighter will do better damage with the staff and still be very monk like.

AGREE^^^^ pure monk handwraps for dps that being said I do have every staff on my monk in the game ( 4 unsuppressed rhals mights, epic souleater, epic nat, dream unsuppressed, shadow ect ) after the update to UMS I was able to take a rhals might into reavers and pound on giants for 250+ on crits and this is not a str based monk ( balanced for void 4 and wis for DCs ) Staffs are fun and a nice hobby but for dps wraps are it unless you go acro.
