Ran some good xp grinding quests last night with a group of mostly TR’s – not sure if I can mention names in the forums or not, so I’ll play it safe and not. Had to leave as it was getting a bit late on the east coast, but it was a really good group. I’m looking for a guild that does a lot of fast paced questing, much as last night. I’ve been inquiring about membership in some of the larger guilds on the server, but it seems many are not currently accepting new applicants. I am more than willing to go through whatever initiation or test I need to go through to gain entrance. If anyone can offer any advice, I’d be happy to listen.

In general, most of the bigger guilds are selective i.e. they only really take on recommendations from guild members.
Monty Pythons on Thelanis is somewhat less selective although they have somewhat unusual membership rules (i..e all toons not logged on for a period of x days are automatically booted).

Beware, large guild or a high lvl guild does not mean its a good guild.
Some guilds have a pretty bad reputation, to the point of being rejected from groups based on guild tag alone.
So think carefully before you join, you don't want to be a part of some kind of circus.
Become a stalker - seriously
You need to run regularly with the people you want to join. Just piking off a TR xp zerg will not get you noticed. (not saying you were piking, but you get the idea)
Find the people / guilds you like and start actively seeking them out.
Find their raid night(s) and try to get invited. Try to see who puts up the LFM's and join as often as you can.
Get noticed.
A guild that will blindly invite you is NOT what you are looking for (IMHO). You are looking for exclusive groups that run fast and hard. Those groups do not just pick up random members.
Once you start running with someone, ask if you can send them tells from time to time to see if they have room for you. A quick - "Hey room for 1 more" could go a long way.
You could after a great slew of quests say some thing like, "Wow that was great, you mind if I look ya up for future runs?"
The last thing is to be unguilded while doing this. Most people will assume that if you are in a guild that your are happy and are not looking for a change. Being unguilded will alert them to that fact, and they may ask if you were looking for a guild.
Good luck and happy hunting

Show that you are trying to make everything out of the toon you are playing by always having good gear and stats; this is viable even on a first toon... look out for some good deals on the AH.

Try to level up several support type characters, ie healers
and bards. Guild raids that pug out often may be looking for
one of these slots to be filled.
Build a reputation or become recognized by the guild of choice
and you will most likely have a much higher chance for an invite.

There's always Legion and Inferus Sus. I'm not sure of the structure of Legion, but IS loves raiding last I remember. Not sure how they are on Epics, though I'm sure they're quite good at them. Great peeps, too. Can't hurt to contact one of their officers to apply.
I'm afraid I don't know much else about any other guilds besides my own, and we're still growing. If you're interested, I'll happily PM you the names of some officers for you to contact; just ask. :)

Agreed. But the "good guild" term is a bit relative. A good guild is just a guild who fullfils one's requirements and expectations, after all.
Some guilds have a pretty bad reputation, to the point of being rejected from groups based on guild tag alone.
Sad, but true.

+1 to you for the elegant subterfuge! I've liked it even when it points towards my guild!
Cheers.

Sounds like some good advice on guild selection, I really appreciate the time everyone took to respond. I remember a couple of the guild names True Reincarnated, The Light Wardens, and The Wild Bunch; all were pretty cool people. I think I kept up with everyone on the kill count for the most part :-) - I’ll take the advice and run with it – thanks again to all!

I’ve heard a lot of good things about them, I’ll take a look. Not sure if they’d be interested in a newer player, but worth a shot I guess. I would definitely like to chat with one of your officers if you don’t mind sending me a PM.
Again, thanks for all the help guys, the response has been awesome.

A lot of the guilds you are looking for do not actively recruit. You run with them, they have a great time with you, but you have to keep running with them. As someone mentioned use a support class. Many of the guilds don't mind having a new player as long as they are willing to listen to advice given for all sorts of things in the game. Good luck, I hope you find a guild that works for you.

THe only one I know of is Wild Bunch, and last I knew, they were a decent guild.
Remember, you need to be HAPPY here. Legion is awesome, it's true, but not everyone's cup of tea. Just saying. Make sure you are happy there.
BTW, kudos for being intelligent about looking for a guild. Don't see that much. You will be just fine and will fit into the game just nicely.

I really appreciate the replies and advice from everyone. I want to find a guild that has a lot of like-minded people focused on unity and success, not one that just sends blind invites or caters to anyone and everyone who wants to join. I have a lot to learn in the game still, and I don't mind learning the hard way if I have to. I don't need someone to babysit me and walk me through quests. I have enough sense to do a little research to get prepared, but… advice is ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. I just don’t like to not know what is going on :-)
A couple guilds I have approached want you to have a certain number of capped characters before they even entertain you, and others are closed to new recruits. I suppose it'll take time to find the right one.

Thank you for the reply, I read your thread and you seem like a really cool person to adventure with – I hope I get the opportunity and privilege someday.

Just wanted to give a quick update…
I found a good home with great people in a Solid guild. Thank you to everyone who helped me with advice. Special thanks to the folks at Solid (http://my.ddo.com/guild-thelanis-solid/) who made me feel so comfortable and part of the family.
Good things to come :D

Glad you found a good guild.
There are alot of different type guilds out there and it is important to find one that fits your personality. When looking for a guild dont jump at the first guild to accept you always group with members of different guilds before you make a decision.
I have been in the same guild for almost 17 years and its good that no matter what game I play it is filled with like minded people who care about the person behind the toon more than the toon itself.. no matter if it is TR'd/Equiped or a certain build.
