View Full Version : A totally new and original topic: Loot discussions!

Please le me preface this topic by mentioning that I bear no ill will to anyone involved. I just thought this might be an interesting topic for discussion.

So I was running casual Prey on the hunter for rune crunching and the chest contained an Exceptional Strength rune for someone else (let's call him rune-man). Rune-man puts his rune up for roll. I inform everyone that I only need the rune for crunching into a sovereign rune, then roll. There are only two interests: Me and armor-man. Armor-man loses the roll, prompting rune-man to say he's going to give his rune to armor-man instead of me, because armor-man actually wants to use it on his armor and if that's OK with me. I'm not all that happy about changing the rules after the roll, but I understand finding the right rune can be a pain, so I tell him it's his loot and he can decide however he pleases, I'm not demanding the rune on principle. He passes the rune to armor-man, who happily declares he will use it on his third DT armor. All the while I'm still trying to get my first one done.
Ah well. Whatever, not my loot, prey on the hunter is easy enough to run again; all I've lost is the potential to save some time.

On another party I pull a healing amplification rune. A party member (we'll call him Ampy) asks if the rune is up for roll. Well, no, not really, but I guess that's a nice rune.... OK, I say, does anyone else want the rune? Another guy (let's call him Crunchy) chimes in and says he'd be interested.
Doubtlessly you have already pieced together what happened. Crunchy won and I was about to pass him the rune when he mentioned he would now have three runes he could crunch into a sovereign. I backpedal, tell him that's not really why I put it up for roll and pass it to Ampy. Ampy loots happily and goes on his merry, curative way, while crunchy informs me that I am a bad person (admittedly he used other words).

So... what about that? How do you think runes should be handled?

Why would you put it up for roll? Everybody pulls a rune in that chest. If I pull a rune I don't want I'll offer it it up for a swap for something I do want or even one I don't want if someone wants mine. A player leaving with 2 runes is going to be crunching at least one of then same as I was going to do. Don't see why someone should leave with 2 runes and anyone else none.

Your rune is your rune :D. Yea, I'd swap around runes, rather than putting em for roll.

My take is this... YL is YL.... but, if you decide to put it up for roll and someone wins but then you decide to give to another person, then that makes you just as bad as the person you origianlly got upset over..
So why go down the same path... what does it matter to you if the winner of the role wanted it to crunch, you had decided you didnt care for it, so why then screw someone else over.
If you want to change your own rules, then fine... but expect the griefing that ensues... cos tbh you deserved it, even moreso after going through the same experience yourself.

TBH though this whole loot thing is getting sooooo tiresome, its like every day another one appears.. not just the original loot envey threads, now we see loot threads like this one and from other OP's who are seeking some kind of soul redemption and self justification for causing loot envey in the first place.. pleazzzzzz lets just drop the whole Loot topics...

It seems that in your parties there is too much rune drama.

Don't roll on any. Just loot your runes and make another run.

Redemption for what? Also, why should I justify anything? If I think something is wrong, I don't do it.

Personally, I think this whole situation is an example for the extremely artificial nature of loot rules, because honestly I was unsure what the best course of action was. I was on the receiving end and thought "That's just fine" and I was the cause, thinking the same thing.

This thread and it's ten zillion bedfellows will go on as long as the game.

People are greedy i'm afraid and all that glitters, clouds judgement.

I try always to go with what seems fair.

So unless you specify some pre-condition as i often do

Like ''i want this shard to go to someone who is ready to craft the item''

If you put it up for roll you do just that. and whoever rolls highest gets it.

Any deviation from this is kinda like going back on your word.

So in terms of your experience. Firstly you were treated poorly, but then you visited the same treatment upon someone else. Which is kinda strange in the light of your own experience.

trade runes, dont put them up for a straight roll unless you are just running for favor or xp.

if i pull a rune that i dont intend to put on an armor, ill ask if anyone wants to trade their rune for it. if they have already looted their rune, well too bad. if not, its all yours. give me whatever **** rune you pulled since im just crunching it anyways.

Actually I don't think I was treated poorly. I agree with the notion of giving the rune to someone who will actually use it on his armor, so I adopted it.

Put it up for roll if you want to.
If you have specifications about who may roll, state this when you put it up for roll.
Transfer item in chest to the highest (or lowest) roll, continue to play game.

If you didn't want people to crunch it, you should have asked if anyone needs it, but only if they're going to craft with it, no crunching.

Don't put runes up for roll. Just trade them. Everyone gets one to crunch, people who are after something get a decent chance at it.

You need ANY rune, armor-man needs THAT rune. You swap, it's a no-brainer, you both get what you need.

Its fair with runes to clarify 'Im only putting this up if you'd use it because otherwise I need to crunch/smash it to make some other tier rune' and thereby exclude anyone else who'd want to use it for that purpose (since its your loot, its kind of dumb for you to let them roll against you to do what you'd use the item for).

On the other hand, specific runes -are- hard to find, and some are very popular (like 10/20 amp dts with destruction or something similar on the top tier for some melees to tank in). In that situation, taking the rune just to crunch it kinda sucks because thats exactly what they are crunching and smashing sovereigns to get.

Or put another way, both you and the guy in the group before you did the right thing, IMO, by permitting someone who actaully wanted to use the specific rune to use it. Even if its for someone's 3rd armor, they clearly feel they'd use that armor frequently enough to run prey on the hunter etc, so its going to a good purpose regardless.

Thast the kind of thing you might see say, if someone uses a red dragonscale armor with +1 str on the colorless slot and then needs dt armor swaps for fire immune monsters. He might want one with destruction for epic questing, with a guard for tanking horoth, etc, but he has to replicate the +1 str on his tempest tier on each armor because its on his usual setup.

No problem. The day everyone else stops worrying about what others going to do with their pull, we can stop talking about loot issues.

We all know that aint gonna happen. So we should all just be quiet about it?

Yeah I do think we should...what difference does it really make to come to the forums and bleet about so and so's loot pull or that's not fair etc etc... nothing is gunna change the fact the player x got summing that player y wants. Player x puts items up for roll player y and player z roll, even tho the item may or may not be more suited or be more desireable by player y, ding player z wins... tra la la. end of debate... it happened someone lwins, someone looses.. get over it, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try,try again...

I've been trying to loot a set of Tharnes for 3 lives now... not a sniff, loosing countless roles on them, latest being to a drow pale master... more usefuul to the PM, maybe, maybe not... more useful to me..hell yeah i think so..but i lost the roll so ..wait 3 days and try again!

Unless the leader posted different rules prior to joining, loot belongs to the player who pulled it. He/she can then do whatever they want with it. Plain and simple. If you want to use it, trade it, sell it, put it up for roll, vendor trash it, give it to your guildee. or trade it for what's behind Door #3, it's their call. Period.

Guy with the loot makes the rules...unless he reneged on a pre-quest deal. Plain and simple.

handle them whatever way pleases you, personally I would do something similar to what you have done, specially on the ampy situation

All this could have been avoided if you said to player B (who lost the roll) 'give your rune to player A (who won) to crunch, and I will gove you this one you are looking for.'

No drama, no thread, no problem! :)
