I'm sure there are a ton of threads like this but I had some specific questions about the community in this game and didn't see a thread about that at first glance, so hopefully I can get some useful answers. :]

I have been playing MMOs for a long time but currently all the "main stream" MMOs are very similar to WoW and that's not to my interests. I am looking for a game to play until the next wave comes out, where something might take my interest. DDO is one of the games I am looking at to bridge that gap.

I am aware of how the game play is but I am not aware of the community. In smaller games I have tried like EQ2 and Guild Wars, the community wasn't that active or inclusive. I find community to be the most enjoyable part of an MMO because I like to succeed or fail as a group, not as an individual.

So how is the community in DDO? Is it inclusive and helpful? Is it easy to get into a guild that is reasonably active?

My desire is to be in a guild with some cool people and just have some fun in dungeons. I do optimize my character and enjoy raiding etc. but I mostly enjoy group play.

Also, how important is the in game store? I know some games are way to into the free store to the point where you can't play it without spending money there. How does DDO handle this?

Thanks in advance for any replies, feel free to spam me with information, I appreciate it.

Firstly, welcome to the game :)

This is my first and only MMO so I cant compare it but I have found the community here to be, on the whole pretty nice. You will get out of it whatever you want.

At the moment I play infrequently and I am unguilded but have friends I run with when our paths cross.

Previously I used to run in guilds. I have been in a few, here and the euro servers. You find a whole mix of people in them, as in real life.

Ive just set up on a new server so its a new process for me again though.

Theres looooooads of guilds around and its important to find one that matches your style but in the mean time run with all and sundry.

You will find people you like, you can then enquire into joining their guild. They may have a recruitment process, they may be open recruiters that take anyone.

Your play style will effect the ease you might find in joining a guild though.

Thats to say, if you want to be in an elite epic end game guild they might have a strict recruitment process and a long waiting list. However, you can always run regular quests with them, maybe get on a friend of the guild list and filled last slots on raids etc, then they will be more likely to invite you.

General questions are answered quite well on the /advice channel but you can get some boners on there.

The forum is always a strong place to get advice. Bad advice is quickly and strongly rebuked.

TL:DR put yourself about a bit and mix with people with similar playstyle. Advice is widespread and freely given when asked.
