How exactly does Fire / Cold / Acid / Electrical Absorption work..
Does it take the 15, 20, 33% of of the base damage, does it take it off after the same resistance, or does it heal you when you are hit with those elements?

Fire Shield absorb the damage before the resists does, causing taking less damage.
I can guess the others work the same.

According to tihocan's shroud loot planner, absorption takes effect after all other resists.

And I can't remember where I took this info from, so feel free to double-check

I am no further ahead now.. One person telling me before, another telling me after based on a source that is unsure of where he got the information and how accurate it was.. *sigh*

If I have 33% absorption & 40 Resist. Say say in fire, and I get hit by a 300 point delayed fireball from a fire elemental.. Do I take:
300 - ( 300 * .33 ) - 40 Which is
300 - ( 100 ) - 40 = 160 points of damage

OR
300 - 40 - ( 260 * .33 ) Which is
300 - 40 - ( 86 ) = 174 points of damage?

It might not matter is I get hit by just one with a 14 point difference, but if I was to get hit by two and have 322 Hit Points, I could survive 320 points of damage, not 348...

Here's order I believe.

Saving throw
Elemental Protection
If no protection apply Resistance
Apply Elemental Absorption

According to a screenshot of Epic Firestorm Greaves http://ddowiki.com/page/Epic_Firestorm_Greaves

Absorption occurs AFTER other protections have been used. My recollection of other sources (Including Thiocan's Shroud Planner), is that absorption is always listed the same way.

So, if you have 100 fire damage base and have 30 fire resist and Fire Storm Greaves you should get:

100 minus 30 resist = 70

70 less 23 (33%) = 47 points of fire damage.

You can also arrive to this conclusion by observing the fact that this is the least efficient way for absorption to possibly work, and that Turbine are evil. ;)

Pretty definitive thread on this:
Playing with fire. Deep lava vs Fire absorb items. (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=290234)

Probably the thread from back in the day where people actually wanted the last 10 points of a Prot from Energy to supercide a 30 point resistance. One of the devs clarified how it worked in DDO. (I believe it was MadFloyd but it looks like that thread got forum purged.) Absorbsion comes after Protection/Resist because the Devs don’t want us to ever be effectively immune to a massive damage elemental effect.
