So the last few days I have been having issues with hirelings being adamant in their protests against my treatment of them. Tonight I had two of them stage a sit in and refuse to leave party. (even after I dropped one of the stones in lava :D)

Even after the whole party was in the market, the two hirelings refused to leave party!!

Yeah the hirelings are more ******** than ever now.

I watched over my roommate's shoulder the other day as he was running The Tide Turns, seeing his cleric hireling wasting all its SP spamming heals on the wounded Deneith guards laying on the floor.

For me the most annoying thing is they don't heal me or themselves. Marissa (level 9 cleric) in particular is causing me fits. Any time I face earth elementals, they always attack her even though she's just standing there. (Speaking of which, did they make aggro more random in u9?) She just stands there taking damage until she dies. Then I die. So I release, reenter, go to the same spot, the exact same thing starts happening. When she's down to around 25% health I step in and tell her to heal herself. She does. I tell her again, she does. etc...

Clearly she is able to heal herself. She simply chooses not to. Not your best effort, programmers.

They are not removing their own ailments now either and seem less likely to cast stuff like restoration for stat damage/exhaustion type effects on my characters.

Hirelings overall have become severely mentally gimped Post U9.

I was foolish enough to try and do The Stones Run Red with my sorcerer and a cleric hireling (the 8th level halfling cleric.)

As soon as we got inside the mountain my personal physician ran - not wandered - but RAN to the bottom to stand in the lava until he died.

After I brought him back at the shrine I told him to say put and be passive, thinking I would only call him when I was far away if I needed a heal, and then he would (hopefully) just teleport to me.
I called to him a bit later and he ran out of the shrine room and stood in the lava until he died. I found his stone about two steps from the door of the shrine, about where a halfling would be up to his hips in molten lava...

That's no punishment! Hirelings LOVE to bathe in lava!

They've gotten really good at removing Poison!

They cast Remove Poison over, and over, and over, and over...every time you're sickened.

Too bad it never actually CLEARS the sickened status. :p

In Splinterskull my hireling really hated that drawbridge lever; he just wouldn't give up attacking it. Kinda felt sorry for the guy. You can select it after it's been used once, but then nothing happens if you try to use it again while it remains selectable. :(

Couple of tips if your hireling seems stuck....

Jumping from a pretty decent height and hitting the summon button while you are descending usually ports the hireling instantly to you. Having FF on while doing this helps a lot....as well as a jump item and or buff....I have actually been able to make this work for me off of low ledges simply because I am able to jump so high and descend slow.

Climbing up a ladder and hitting the summon button while still on the ladder will also instantly summon your hireling to you...just make sure you are still on the ladder when doing so.

Also if you happen to be running a hireling in command only mode....switch it to passive every now and then so they drink a mnemonic...yes their mnemonics recharge with shrines....the ones with DV's will also sometimes have more after they have used a shrine.....so have them use it even if they have a lot of SP left.

Perhaps this is a big protest about their working conditions? I mean death means nothing to them because they do not get xp or equipment damage. Maybe they want a more equitable share of the take :p

Maybe the dev. should not have tried to program them to try and heal the whole party. This was a suggestion many, including myself thought was a bad idea....now we have hirelings who won't even heal themselves, but will fully heal any charmed mob.

i think you should cut her some slack. Maybe she has family issues? Maybe she has 3 children and her husband ran away and now she feels her whole life has gone to PIECES?!?!??! maybe you just haven't found the quest which reveals the tragic backstory and it is actually ur task as the HERO!!! to SAVE HER!!!! and get some special magical DDO store item as a reward!!!

i dont mind the hirelings. they r pretty dense, but not more so than in other rpgers ive played.
i dont expect them to do much cept keep me company and swing a weapon or chuck a heal occasionally.

There are a couple other threads floating around out there about how bad hirelings are right now. Someone really screwed them up =/.

They heal charmed enemies. I've heard a lot of (non-D&D playing, I assume) people saying this is all kosher in MMO-land, that it doesn't matter according to the Rules of DPS or whatever, but I promise you if it happened in a pen-and-paper D&D game, complete hireling-a-cide would follow.

Just sayin' - it might be Dungeons and Dragons Online, but it's still Dungeons and Dragons, and we don't heal the charmed monsters in mid-combat. The idea is, they die fighting for us.

They also auto-heal summoned creatures, which isn't always the greatest thing in the world, either, just because the summons are more expendable and those SPs could be used on party members.

As a less party-wiping but equally embarassing aside, the enemies cast buffs on our hirelings (their new best friends) as well. I couldn't find Mareth and then I realized the Sulatar Wizards had made him invisible. This won't look good on Mareth's resume'.

Now, I'm a forward thinking and adaptable dude. If we're gonna have this stuff going on, let's just let the hirelings ressurect enemies, too, while they're at it. And hey, let the enemies rez us! Otherwise, can their healing please make sense?

I completely agree that the hirelings are worse now than I have ever seen them. Ran Eyes of Stone on a duo with 2 hireling clerics. Went in to the medusa fight and used Mass Suggestion on the trash mobs. In less than 30 seconds both of the hirelings were out of sps from healing the charmed mobs. Neither myself or my friend received 1 heal. Since I mainly solo and duo this has forced me to remove all charm type spell from my hot bars. I hire these idots to keep me alive not every mob I charm or every npc we run across in a quest. If I want an npc healed I will tell the hireling to heal them after all I paid their wages.

Just ran Von3 "solo" with Samuel Merrik.

I had him just hang out and called him over to top me off after clearing areas but figured for the end fight I'd need some healing so I called him into the room and parked him in the corner and set him to heal me.

Marut comes out and he comes over and stands next to me taking damage and saying "i need healing" as he died. Didn't throw a single heal to me or himself. If I wanted to hop around drinking pots I would have just left him at the vendor.

:D What the heck. I guess I know now that at the moment hireling healers are truly just walking cure pots and DVers for between battles. If you put them near anything that gives damage they will gladly just bask in their own death to the exclusion of everything else.
