View Full Version : trying to craft a muckbane replacement

So, I'm a 20th level character who continues to carry around two muckbanes for the occasional ooze.

So, I thought what better think to try to craft that something that's like a muckbane, but better.

Ok, so making a Muck's doom is a little beyond my crafting ability at the moment, I set out to create this:

+1 acid touch club of lesser ooze bane.

And I did - and for the record it works GREAT!

BUT - after testing it out in Durk's, halfway down the hallway I get a message - "Your +1 acid touch club of lesser ooze bane is Worn!"

Worn?!!?

So, I look at the description of a muckbane, and it indicates that it's a wooden club, but covered in some kind of black polish....

But I always though that a regular club wouldn't wear against an ooze? Am I wrong in this regard?

Is there any way to craft a muckbane?

muckbane is glass (or ..crystal?)

doesn't take damage from oozes.. I'm fairly certain nothing aside from muck bane/doom drops as crystal/glass.

well, you could always make +4 shocking burst wraps of ooze bane --> wraps don't take damage from oozes :D

Muckbane and Muckdoom are made of GLASS.

You need Everbright on the thing to make it last like a muckbane. Unfortunately that costs a suffix, fortunately Everbright is ridiculously easy to craft.

I think slimes are all either chaotic or neutral so a True Law Maul/Warhammer of Everbright should be almost as good as a muckbane.

EDIT: Just realized you're a L20 melee who should be able to buy 2 muckdooms from the AH no sweat. In that case, nothing's going to be beter than that.

A +5 nothing of Everbright would still be better than a regular muckbane, but it will be a long time before you'll be able to make +5 to put on an item.

Any +anything [prefix] [blunt weapon] of Everbright will work nicely for you, though.

Muckbanes are sooooooo Harbor... :D

As many have said. A + whatever of everbright is the ticket! Then, you have a slimey AND a rusty smacker!!!!
Everbright FTW!!!!

Along the same lines I went with an Adamantine weapon and then added acid touch and lesser ooze bane. My theory was that since it's a bound item it won't take permanent damage and the adamantine would help the weapon last long enough to make it to a repair shop, leaving off everbright allowed for two other damaging effects... Haven't really been able to test it much though. Anyway just a thought...

-- edit --

I actually went with vicious of lesser ooze bane. I can self heal so the extra damage with vicious seems useful. I use dwarven axes which is why I went with Adamantine (apparently splitting oozes isn't such a bad thing), but if the OP wanted to stick with wood, perhaps a Darkwood/Densewood club would be better. "Since it is not metal it is immune to the attacks of creatures that may damage metal, like Rust Monsters and slimes."

doesn't take damage from oozes.. I'm fairly certain nothing aside from muck bane/doom drops as crystal/glass.

There are several items which are crystal/glass. Terror from Mindsunder, Dreamspitter, and the Shrieking Star (from Slavers of the Shrieking Mines) are also that way.

How much ooze do you even encounter after 10th.. not much is your answer.

I took a silver maul added ghost touch and Everbright and called it a day.

So my weapons are my multi tool and a lighting2.

I got lots of room in my pack now.

Since you are crafting them anyway....craft more than one so you have a backup.

Bound items do not take permanent damage.....seems crafted items should not either.

Could do the Adamanitine Rituals on them to make them last longer.

I think wood takes less damage from them than metal....but I'm not sure.

Adamantine would have more durability I think.

Don't you mean the Shining?

Heaven's no. Do you want to get sued?

Acid doesn't work against the entire ooze family, some of the ooze bosses actually get healed by acid damage. The best guaranteed damage prefix against all ooze and rust monsters is vicious. The suffix, as mentioned, has to be everbright.

I use Vicious of Everbright because the way I see it, I want armor-eating enemies dead as soon as possible, so the highest dps possible is my priority. The alternative is an alignment based prefix, True Law I think hits them all but not positive. That's half the damage of vicious, but at least your attack sequence won't by herky-jerky from incoming vicious damage.

A muckbane does 9 (2d6+2) damage vs ooze and 4.5 (1d6+1) damage vs rust monsters. That's not hard to beat; a +5 warhammer with no extra damage prefix does 9.5 (1d8+5) damage vs everything. If +5 is out of reach based on crafting level, even a lowly and easily craftable +1 Vicious Warhammer of Everbright does 12.5 (1d8+2d6+1) damage to everything, making it half again as effective as muckbane vs ooze. (True Law requires a pretty high crafting level; around +3/+4 territory.)

Or a ghosttouch adamantine maul of everbright. I made a thread about what is useful against ozzes some time ago: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=297840

Or a ghosttouch adamantine maul of everbright.

Very effective against Ghost-Ooze Constructs. =D

OT, but the player comment at the bottom made me laugh:

Even if Jubilex appears with a chest you probably will not find it and no one in your party will even pull it.
...
The chance of finding this item is extremely small. Just keep using your muck bane in my opinion. Do the Pit Quest once to get credit, hopefully on elite, and then never come back.

I have a Muck's Doom (got it after about 10 runs) and I like The Pit.

You better look out for those, in U10 they will be all over the place.
But I really like my 4in1 beater, it covers ghosts, oozes, constructs and rust monsters. This, an anarchic smiting/gcb for portals/maruts and a min2 > you are done with 95% of mobs with dr.

Living spells are ooze's as well. They are found in the subterrane and a few quests higher up, most notably in Enter the Kobold.
