sometimes when i am casting firewall and icestorm, the firewall vanishes.
it tends to do so when there are bosses/enemy casters around (so i think).
but then i overheard that ice storm can extinguish firewall.. is that the case?

Well... think about it when you light a fire outside, then drop a block of ice on it. What happens?

Doesn't happen in neverwinter nights.
i don't think it happens in pnp rules does it?
certainly not in 3rd edition.
anyone know if acid rain puts out fire? or any other cross- magical counters?
thx!

In this game, Ice Storm extinguishes Wall of Fire. It didn't always, but now it does.

Well that would depend on your GM I suppose. No idea what the rules actually say. In our (2nd Ed) games, it would probably go like this:
GM: enemy casts a firewall
Player: ****! Say... if I cast an icestorm right on it, will that put it out?
GM: well... yeah, I suppose it would.
Players: excellent! Do that.
GM makes mental note of new house rule. From now on, the door is open to all kinds of interesting counter measures, and the players aren't going to like all of them because they didn't think of them first...
Anyway, in DDO this was changed a couple of updates ago. Bear in mind this can be boon as well as a curse - you can put out enemy firewalls (and they can put out yours).
FYI - the wind spells also blow out firewalls and erase any cloud effects.

The ice block would melt, and the water would evaporate before putting fire out!:)
It really depends on size of fire vs amount of water, I think instead of extinguishing the fire, the fire and ice should weaken each other!

Air eles in reaver put out every persistant aoe spell, including dancing ball.
Sleet storm also puts out firewall/unable to put a fw within one.

Which still doesn't really make much sense. Disco balls shouldn't be removed that way.

But if you burn thermite on ice, it detonates.

Agree. But could work in our favor as well. Been wanting to test it our in say Monestary where ball pops over the puzzle.

I want my wall of fire sodium based, with the ice then enhancing the flames.

We should also be able to cast grease, set it on fire and hit it with a gust of wind which increases the size of the fire damage. The grease should also take away the reflex save.

Ok... would a bonfire go out if it was constantly pelted by hail the size of basketballs? Say the hail was just practically aiming for a small area that of which the bonfire is.
