So two weeks and 3 million platinum spent, I managed craft myself a +4 Bodyfeeder Blessed Silver Rapier of Vampirism.
Guide to grinding craft XP.
Step 1) Obtaining Essenses
To get to high enough level to craft your shiny, you must advance in the 3 schools. Arcane, Divine, Elemental. Crafting XP applies only to these 3 schools and sub-categories apply crafting XP to their crafting school. (Air, Earth, Fire, Water all give generic Elemental School XP and require Elemental Crafting Levels)
DO NOT MELT DOWN MOST JUNK. When you melt an item down, you only get to use ONE part of it for making Essences, either the Prefix or the Suffix.
Enhancement bonuses are reserved as vendor trash.
Here is why:
Seeker +10 gives 32 Lesser Divine Essences and has a 1/4 chance of giving 1d4 Greater Divine Essences.
Seeker +2 gives 2 lesser Divine and has a 1/5 chance of giving 1 Greater Divine Essence.
A +1 Seeker-10 Longsword gives 32 Lesser and 1 Greater.
A +5 Seeker-2 Longsword gives 2 Lesser and 0.2 Greater.
Both items will sell for 1000 platinum at the Pawn shop.
If you melt down the Seeker 10, you paid about 23 platinum per Lesser Essence. (I'm counting 1 Greater as 10 Lessers)
If you melt down the Seeker 2, you paid about 250 platinum per Lesser Essence. (I'm counting 1 Greater as 10 Lessers)
Therefore, 5x +5 Seeker-2 Longswords will melt down into 10 Lesser Essences and 1 Greater Essence.
Whereas the 5000 platinum will get you a +1 Seeker-10 Longsword at the Auction House which equals 32 Lesser Essences and 1 Greater Essence.
The following all grant Tier 5 Drops, AKA 32 Lesser Essences and 1/4 chance of 1d4 Greater Essences. Here is a long list that you will not be memorizing. What you will do is run to the House K after every few quests and put every item into the altar one at a time. If the altar states that it gives a Tier 5 drop, you melt it. Otherwise, leave it in your inventory and sell it later. The list is so that you will know what to search for in the Auction House.

Crafting shards give experience based on the crafting level, YET the cost of each shard is only mostly correlated to level. You want to craft the least expensive shard that has the highest shard level. Craft at or above your crafting level but no more than 10 levels above your crafting level. If you have level 25 Arcane, search for levels 25-35.
Notable Exceptions are Save Bonuses (Reflex +2) , Spell Bonus Clickies (Efficacy). These shards often costs considerably less than shards of the same level range.

They tend to be much cheaper than other recipes of their level and therefore give the best XP/essense spent. You will need to have your character sheet open to the crafting page and watch the XP increase with each shard crafted.
You will be creating shards in order to gain the crafting experience. Some people destroy the shards afterwards, others recycle the shards to craft more magical items to melt down.
Warning: XP is granted only on successful shard crafting and the XP of that recipe decreases by 1 for each time you craft it. The listed XP only updated after you gain crafting levels. If you craft a recipe repeatly, it will eventually only give 0 XP but will still list as offering the full amount of xp.
