If you assume spears are coming out tomorrow, then they would have taken 6years or so to get here.

Since tridents are equivalent to 3 spears, I'd expect them around May 05th, 2023.

Uh, ok, the website may be fraudulent, but the pictures seem legit!

Any chance we get some dev response?

OMG it's so far in the future they added the 05th day to the calendar! Probably to avoid another Mayan debacle...

Since concept art is done before a graphic artists starts work on a computer modals, those concepts are probably from 2003 - 2004.

Well, they've also had concept art for Mimics since before the game launched in 06... and man have the Devs over-used them.

...wait.

Disappointed that they haven't introduce mimics yet, especially with the Xoriat quests.

I would made it that all chests have a ~25% chance to be a mimic including raid chests.

Mimics would be so awesome.. (random chance to appear of course)

Mobs have scythes, why can't we?

Of course after update 9, nobody really cares anymore (scythes are two handers that x4 crit on 20)

Sadly, DDO is so far behind the ball in a lot of areas, that it does make you wonder if they'll ever appear.

Half the PHB weaponry isn't ingame; races and classes that you'd think would be in DDO aren't; and the speed at which content and the game advances is quite slow (in comparison to other MMOs). Capstones and PrEs, for instance, are what... almost 2 years old now since inception? And nowhere even close to being done.
Meanwhile newer MMOs are being developed which are direct competition. They're prettier, more advanced, and more polished and complete in many ways.

I do like this game, don't get me wrong. But Turbine needs to pull their finger out and get this stuff DONE. While they still have a playerbase. Because sooner or later that newer, prettier, shinier MMO that comes out will interest newer and older gamers alike. Not many people stick with an MMO for over 10 years, after all! (and this game is over 5 years old already)

Man, I wish they would put mimics in...

It may actually convince people that running to open the chest in the middle of combat is not the best idea, and would be a nice change from just being another trap.

"No traps, chest time!" *tries to open chest, mimic noms on hand* "Oh gawd, my arm!"

LOL

Signed and very true...

Would prefer double swords and maces before tridents. This brings me to a question though. NwN had all these weapons and more complete with animations long before DDO. What gives? This is the kind of DEVelopement we'd like to see. Not constant nerf packs and reinvention of the wheel.

I agree with alot of what you say, though the prettier/more advanced/more polished MMOs recently released are what? Rift? Doa

DC Uni...lol poor SOE

Conan, Vanguard, COH/COV, Champions, STO....I'm sure I've forgotten some less then memorable others.

Turbine, as much as I hate to admit it, did something right with F2P. If you think the playerbase is going away to some imaginary game....eh...Plenty of people stick with MMOs for 10+ years....Look at UO, Asheron's Call (turbine), WOW, and several others are either over 10 yrs old or approaching it.

You are incorrect.

spears first >:O, or perhaps a naginata....

unrelated note, were tridents ever an effective weapon of war, or were they confined to fisherman themed colloseums and fishing towns

Most of those are not what I would consider recently released. Conan, Vanguard, CoH, etc. are all older games that came out around the time of DDO (some before, some slightly after).

The newer ones that DDO has lost players to (and other MMOs have lost players to, for that matter), would be Aion, Rift especially, and a few others. Guild Wars 2 and SW:TOR will also draw a lot of gamers.
It's a highly competitive market, and people tend to get bored easily. Given the repetitive nature of DDO where you run the same quests over and over again, it's only natural that players will bore more easily than in other games (where you only tend to run the same content over and over again once you get to max level and are raiding).

Not only that, but lives change over time. For example, the gamers who were teenagers when DDO was first released are now graduating from university, getting full-time jobs, getting married, and possibly even having kids. They're not going to want to want to wait 2 more years for PrEs to be released when other real-life concerns are more pressing. Getting content finished ASAP is critical to keep your gamers interested.

And as for the truly older games, such as UO and Everquest, I would consider them anomolies since they were the pioneers. People still hold onto those because they were the first MMOs many of us encountered, and as such have certain nostalgic qualities that the newer games just don't seem to have. You can't really compare those to newer games as a result IMO.

This would be awesome) A few years ago I've played VERY hardcore nwn PVE shard(on death you dropped SOME equipment + any rat could kill you at first lvl very easy + you lose exp on death). And their forum was orintied towards minmaxing & creating diffrent builds(not for flavour =)). And there was a joke the only things devs should implement for true RP - monsters looting you on death)
