Do Lesser Hearts of the Wood ever drop ingame?

I just rolled up a FVS, and while he's awesome, and level 4.5ish right now, it occurs to me that in a handful of specific areas I really messed up(specifically, an 16 con/8 str combo, and a combination of "some skill choices I could choose...better" and "some skills I want that I can wait for a +2 tome for).
looking at like...simple maths, I can tell +2 tomes will drop..eventually, and be common enough that a foolish nub like me will be able to find them(I'm...guessing they'd show up at like...12ish? I have no clue on that, but I'd love knowing when I should start to expect em. )

Also, I've been looking at lesser hearts of wood(being able to re-level up with additional i+2 to a stat from 7 onwards would be amazingly nice.), and I have no idea where to get them outside of the store. the DDO wiki says the Hearts of Wood can drop in dungeons(but they say NOTHING after that)., but I'm wondering: what level+ do they drop in, and like...are they only "endgame major chain rewards" or can they show up just in chests/at the end of the dungeon?

Almost anything in the store can drop in a chest, but those drops are quite rare. At level 4.5, you're probably better off spending the 3-4 hours to start over.

yes they do, but very rare. I got a +1 greater heart of wood the first week that store stuff could drop, and have no seen one drop (for anyone in any of my parties) since then. (Fully TRed a character, leveled another from 1-20 and played a few alts up to various level)

That being said, even if you got one to drop, or farmed enough favor to buy one, at lv 4.5 it is MUCH easier to restart.

Another thought would be to play the toon until you get 1000 favor, then reroll. At that point you will have a much better idea what you want your FvS to do, you will have a better understanding of the game, and you will have unlocked drow and vet status (start a new toon at lv 4)

PS Most +2 tomes come around lv 17+ Ive found. But you can start finding +1 tomes very quickly (and they are pretty cheap). They drop ALOT more often then hearts of wood

So far i have only seen greater hearts of wood in the AH but those will work just fine.

The only hearts i have seen dropping have been a couple of +1 both on the Shroud at the chest in part IV.

I've played regularly for about a year now and have seen exactly one heart of wood drop in that time. It was a +3 lesser heart and it was in the end reward chest for Kobold Assault done at hard for a 4th level character.

I agree that it takes so little time to run through the first couple of levels that if you're unhappy with a character at 4th or 5th level it makes much more sense to just start over. If you did get a heart to drop for you, selling it on the Auction House and then using the money to buy items to twink your next character would make much more sense to me. I made 1.2 million for mine.

My guildie, who pulls collapsed black holes from chests like they were +2 docents, pulled a +2 lesser heart of wood during a +1 loot week a few months ago (I saw him do it).

Then last night while we were running Chamber of Kourosh at level on normal, he pulls a +1 greater heart of wood!


So yeah they drop. I've witnessed it. But boy it seems rare.


So rare that if you have a character under level 10 who isn't working for you, I'd recommend you re-roll.

I have gotten both a lesser and greater +1 heart of wood on random drops on low level characters. One was in the Waterworks with a level 3 or 4 char, in a chest from the rare spider - I gasped audibly, such was my surprise at the randomness paired with the low-level-ness of the zone/kill. The other was on a PUG run a few days ago with a level 4 or so character in Redfang. So, both were free, low level zones and just really random.

I pulled a +3 Greater Heart of Wood from part 3 of the Shroud once, but I've also heard of them dropping in the harbor (although that may be a rumor).

I've pulled two +3 lesser hearts while I've been playing. One was from a chest in SoS, the other I pulled from part 3 Shroud.

Pulled a +3 heart, not sure if it was lesser or greater but think greater, from one of the Shroud flagging quests. May have been Rainbow as I've run that one a lot.

^ This. I got a +1 Greater Heart of Wood from that rare spider in WW, I believe I was on a level 3 character at the time. I *may* have squealed. It's the only one I have had drop in almost a year. Fun times.

Rolled a new level 4 Character about two months back, and the very first chest I looted was in Durk's. Pulled a +3 Lesser Heart.

cool. On to the second question: when do +2 tomes start showing up? Tomes are cool :P

I've only seen one heart drop, and it was a +3, Greater I believe, from one of the side chests in the treasure room of Epic Wizard King.

As for tomes, level 16 or 17 chests is when you usually first see them drop as random loot. You can occasionally get them from Vale quest end rewards. +2 Tomes are also rare raid loot in VoN and Titan, but those are bound to character.

Not only have I never seen a heart of wood of any type drop but I have gotten a whopping total of ONE item of loot that can be bought from the DDO store- am xp point boost potion- and it dropped just a couple of days after DDO store items were introduced as possible loot in game.

I have to agree with those that suggest re-rolling. It's just less time-intensive.

As for the +2 Tomes, I have lucked into a few of them and, yes, they seem to be found in chests in level 16+ quests or as end rewards for quests of around that same level. I think I might have seen one drop in an Orchard quest but most have been from Vale quests. With +1 Tomes, I think I've actually seen them drop as early as maybe Gwylan's Stand (level 6 quest I think?) and I've also gotten a couple from Red Fens quests (level 9-ish).
