View Full Version : A tale from Proof is in the poisen

Yesterday I am running a new fun build i roll up. Youd laugh if I told you but I promise for lvl 6, and as heavily twinked as he is, id have to be a feebleminded orge to not hold my own in virtually any at lvl content.

So I am feeling abit cocky when I see a Proof is in the poisen on normal saying IP, and it has a lvl 6 FVS horc, and a lvl 4 WF barb only. I am thinking they must be good or foools and click to join.

I dont run this quest alot, I dont think many do. But my memories of that first run are still so vivid I am almost reflexively equipping toons with the gear they would need at lvl 4 for this one.

First thing my ears and eyes are greeted to are the FVS shouting for heals. I am nearby and step in thinking hm this should be interesting.

The toaster says technically you are the healer to the nearly dead FVS. Who is dieing to acid arrows( hm me I can think of a few spells id have by lvl 6 that are really good to know and make that spell trivial in threat. Now i am a 2/2/2 and a melee guy, i have 2 in pally and carry a few wands ofcourse because I am not a mooch and like to be prepared.

Apparently the FVS is only putting up the lfm cus he wants people to heal him. i mean really he says this. I am running through at this point to reach them, both incapped. and a few more have joined by this point. Only now the toaster barb says he is done and leaves. cant blame him.

I reach the dead fvs and grab his stone from the middle of the acid pools so far out from any ledge i have to get in the nasty to grab him. I have the boots from chrono, and wand whip myself as needed and get through to the shrine fighting my way solo, while 3 others work to catch up. All 3 die in same acid pool room so I run back and grab all 3 of them and bring em back to shrine to.

Ofcourse while I was doing that the FVS had shrined then run on ahead adn was incapped again. I truly run with all my speed, haste, striding boots, etc. and get there just a second to late to hit him with a wand blast. he gets all ****y and rage quits.

Now we are in pretty deep it feels like, and those left are not ready to back down. We make our way through, a few more deaths here and there, but i dont think that is so bad for this quest and a few first timers among us.

But really the things one can get into when one meets a FVS with no heals, or protection spells. I honestly couldnt figure out what he was dumping his blue on.

Probably just non stop Divine Favor and Bulls Str or other melee spells like that. It CAN be a powerful way to go, if you have backup sources for the more needed effects and spells. ( I know I built a very effective melee focused favored soul, but I also made sure to twink the &**&^ out of the character with supplies and clickies, and nice weapons of course.) That being said, PitP is not an especially hard quest unless you have no preparations ready. Acid is the most obvious one...

Now you know why people don't really pug this quest a lot. It's the hardest quest at that level (how difficult is subjective, of course) and can be a nightmare for a group that is ill prepared.

Acid resist is a big one, also some sort of Shield or Nightshield helps a lot and on elite you also want electricity resist. Melee focused favored souls have the /potential/ to do fairly well in there since they can buff all the necessary stuff and then go to work. The difference between a full fledged melee and a secondary one (ie: battleclerics/fvs, bards, etc.) isn't that huge at the low levels.

It sounds like you just experienced how bad this quest can be for/with people that don't really grasp what they are doing (or should be doing).

Sounds pretty comical. I think I soloed that a while ago and I liked it better than being in group but I got crazy saves, good jump, self healing, ect.

oh and dont get me wrong, I had a blast, so did all those who stuck it out, especially since we all got to just ***** at the long gone FVS when something did go bad, after all he was the one asking for help and all of us had just come to do that the best we could.

I myself got to shine a fair bit, my great jumps, my acid res, and self heals kept me going, I am not 100% but think I only died once at the end when i took point against the boss. Those that did die several times took it in stride, and we all had enough fun we then ran an STK on normal for some casual fun. Then knocked out a quick caged the trolls in house p as a wrap up for our fun little pug of survivors.

I think the name of the quest is quite apt, for the poisen most certainly helps give proof to your capabilities with a character at that lvl.

I think this story illustrates a basic problem with the game, or with the game's future, or with a portion of the demographic of game player that turbine is catering to... one of those...

See, it seems that people like to play an MMO that lets them make the toughest fighter or the most impressive offensive caster, and then wade recklessly through all quests smashing everything.

I'm more of a daisy-sniffer, personally, and I wish there more quests that forced us to have a balanced party in order to complete. That being said, I kinda hated PiitP, and doubt I'll be repeating it any time soon.

Anyhow, good job saving the quest. That place can be tough for sure, and ForestGumping everone out of there is quite a feat :)

What's wand-whipping?

wand whipping is a term used by those who use wands heavily for healing.

Except that leads to more players like the capped wiz who couldn't make it out to ADQ by himself because he "didn't have any healing"... then incapped to casual efreeti because... he "had a death penalty and didn't have any healing". He relied so much on having certain roles filled that he completely ignored the situation and his own capabilities. Everyone's capped (the plan was for edq next) so no reason for slayers... invisibility and haste was all he really needed.

I took the question as sarcasm in the face of a FVS yelling for heals :p

could be, my sarcasm detection is a cross class skill.
