Just for fun: I always gear myself to deal the absolute maximum DPS to bosses in order to bring them down as fast as possible while using only minimal healing to complete the quest. Non-boss minions have massively less HP, deal massively less damage, and can always be CCed or crippled in some way, which means the party/raid can take them apart at their leisure. With bosses, this is impossible. They have to be brought down fast or you risk severe damage to the party/raid and possible failure. I am compulsive about this, but that's up to you to decide.
This problem is for a THF Frenzied Berserker Barbarian.
The final boss in The Dreaming Dark has DR Good + Crystal and 50% fortification on normal. Don't know about Hard and Elite, but I assume those defenses become higher.
These are currently the only two weapons in the game that can cut through his DR. Because glancing blows constitute such a large source of DPS, I do not use any other weapon against him.
* Dreamspitter deals more base damage and more average glancing blow damage ONLY when weapon effects apply on hit, but has lower critical hit damage.
* Epic Hammer of Life deals more critical hit damage and more average glancing blow damage, but less base damage.
Currently, I am leaning towards the Epic Hammer of Life because it swings slightly faster and critical hits are massive when they come from a Barbarian with a x6 multiplier. I actually have the unsupressed Dreamspitter and was planning on using it for this boss until I can finish my hammer. With the hammer in Update 9, I would dump the staff, since it would be pretty useless for anything else.
What do you think of a solution?
