View Full Version : Incremental Crafting or Not?

I tried searching and couldn't find an answer to this anywhere, so if it has been answered already (somewhere?), please link...

Is it possible to craft incrementally or do all effects have to be added at the same time?

ex. I want the end result to be a +5 Holy Burst Dagger of Greater Aberration Bane.

Can I make a +3 then +4 then +5?

Can I make a +5 Dagger of Greater Aberration Bane, then add the Holy Burst at a later date/time?

Can I start with a Lesser Aberration Bane then upgrade to Greater Aberration Bane?

I'm pretty sure that in order to upgrade an item you need to deconstruct it and start over. From what I could tell, from my limited testing, there was no way to do incremental upgrades like what you are asking. One note though, you can add holy burst in your example since the dagger doesn't have a prefix already.

From your example you would need to deconstruct. You can add a prefix at one point in time, then later add a suffix, then add a "+" at another time. But in order to change or upgrade the "+" enhancement the item needs to be deconstructed.

The item always retains the craftable property.

This is possible in the current crafting system.

No incremental increases of enhancements. However you can incrementally add a prefix and suffix to an item later.

To further answer your question: The crafting process is 1 shard + 1 item in the combine device = Effect on item.

So no, you don't have to put all 3 shards + item in the crafting device at the same time.

From what I could see, you can't.
Once you put a part of the enchantment, modifier, prefix or suffix, it's like burning a DVD - or carving a slate.

You can add missing parts, but you can't rewrite or modify what you crafted, without tearing the whole item down.
You could keep it "unfinished", such as "mundane" holy of bane.

As an aside: masterwork seemed like an inherent weapon quality, such as silver or adamantine.
Many caster-assist weapons are inherently masterwork.
Tearing them down for blanks would yield a masterwork weapon you could partially enchant for lower final ML.

You can add once:
1- +X enchancement shard
2- one preffix effect
3- one suffix effect

At any order you want, but only one time each type.

ex. I want the end result to be a +5 Holy Burst Dagger of Greater Aberration Bane.

Do in any order: +5 enchancement shard, Greater aberration Bane shard, Holy burst shard. (the change of order was intentional :)

Can I make a +3 then +4 then +5?

No, its just one time for a shard with a plus. You cant upgrade a already puted effect. Have to deconstruct and restart over.

Can I make a +5 Dagger of Greater Aberration Bane, then add the Holy Burst at a later date/time?

Yes, its just one time for a shard with a Prefix effect. You can put if the preffix slot is "empty".

No, its just one time for a shard with a Sufix effect. You cant upgrade a already puted effect. Have to deconstruct and restart over.

There is no prefix yet, or am I wrong? The +5 is a +X enhancement, the Greater Bane is a suffix. There is still room to add the Holy Burst prefix. Yes?

Thank you for the responses. How about the reverse:

OK. I made my +5 Holy Burst Dagger of Greater Aberration bane.

Can you remove only the bane property (or +X, or Holy) from this particular weapon (not a loot weapon) in essence reverting it back to a +5 Holy Burst Dagger?

I know that it destroys loot items, but does it destroy a previously crafted item?

Yes. Anytime you remove an effect from an item, you are destroying the item.

That's too bad that they aren't making it incremental. One of the best crafting systems I've seen was in Asheron's Call (another Turbine game) and you could find an item and "tinker" it with a variety of materials that you had salvaged, each time adding damage, to hit bonus, armor class etc. I'd love to see something more along those lines, it really was pretty cool. Allowed low level crafters to make an item slightly better, maybe be able to tinker it once or twice, higher level crafters could make more improvements (difficulty on the next tinker went up every time you enhanced an item) .

Kind of made crafting at low levels a plus, this sounds like you won't be making anything useful until much higher levels,

Dust of disjunction will remove everything from a crafted weapon returning it to a blank.
