Hello. I have tried to DL the trial from 3 different places and every time it fails when trying to install and has damaged / corrupt files. Im not losing connections or anything and I have a hi speed cable connect. any idea on how to avoid this? im already 2-3 days into my trial and still cant get it DL'd yet....
Would like to see if theres a way to get the full 7 days again if I ever get this darn thing to DL

hey man, i dont know if this will help, but i had tried to DL it as well. when it came to logging in, that went fine, but when it came to the screen where you pick your world to play in.... you need to RIGHT click on the world you want and then click play... if your like me you were confused about how to get it to work... i thought there was something wrong, but turns out it was just a pain in the ass to figure out... haha
hope it helps

I seem to recall having this problem back in Beta & the headstart, and the solution seemed to be to make sure you leave the browser that you used to get to the download link open while the download is going on.

If the keys haven't been sent yet can you get them resent? I'm hoping some stupid spam filter didn't swallow them..

I have DL'ed, created a DDO Trial account but cannot login. I am told no such account exists. Do I need to create a COM account also or just wait for the DB's to update?
Also, trial accounts don't have access to post anywhere but here?

Quick question, say in my 7 day trial i get a bunch of levels in, say 4 or 5. then i let my trial expire and come to the game at a later date, will my char been gone forever? or as long as my turbine account exists my ddo chars will exist?

Currently we do not have plans to wipe trial account characters.

I have introduced DDO to a friend and told him to get 7 day trial and was very enthusiastic about it.
However, it requires credit card to activate.
He is now having second thoughts even though I told him his CC won't be charge.

Many many other Online Games require credit card info for their trials. This is not for any shady reasons, but to ensure that people do not abuse the trail system.
Tell you friend that DDO is run by an established company, and he will not be charged, and will not be "Automatically signed up" without his consent.

We won't charge the credit card but are requiring that now to get the free trial.
This is probably an attempt to reduce the plat sellers, many of whom use trial accounts to do their thing. While I understand him being nervous, in this case there are reasons behind it.

It is a standard practice with almost all subscription based MMOs. Doing so serves several purposes:
1. To help insure kids are not signing up for things unknowingly by their parents.
2. To help cut down on the ToS and EULA agreement breakers, such as plat sellers who are knowingly breaking the rules to play the game to accomodate themselves financially
3. To help insure that others who do actually want to play the game do not simply keep gaining free trials time after time. Granted in some ways you still can, but this helps cut down on that emensely.
4. To verify that you are actually capable of paying to play the game to start with, should you decide to continue after the trial period.
No money is charged during the free trial, however it is typical that an initial attempt at a $1 is made to verify that the account is in good standing and active. I do not know if Turbine does this method or not, but they do some kind of verification. For those using debit cards that act like credit cards, then the $1 verification tends to show up differently and can be noticed as a $1 hold, but not an actually charge. What this does is place $1 on hold for a couple days they the hold is released and no money is ever actually taken. If you have internet access to your bank account with status windows of Account Balance, Collected Balance and Available Balance, then you may see this $1 hold be shown against your Available Balance, even though the money is still there. The hold is typically released in a couple days and made avaialbel again. It's just the nature of using a debit card.

what purpose does the 7 day trial serve? All I see people using it for is making new chars to spam messages to anyone not invisible that they should buy platinum off their web site.I currently get 10-20 of these a day no matter what character I am on.when they spam the tells they simply delete the character and make a new one.No penalty suffered for doing so.their main acount isnt affected in the least bit.I also know a guy who just makes bogus email address's and signs up for it everytime his 7 day runs out.His reasoning is: once you get to vl 10 theres nothing to do anyway so why pay to play the game after 10 when you can just make a new trial account and transfer anything not bound to it and play some more for free.

OK, I downloaded the trial, because I'm trying to find a new MMO to get into, but it seems i can't download the update, it keeps saying connection attempt failed, when I don't know why it fails. Can I get some help on what to do, please?

Servers are down for maintenance right now, thats why you cant update.

Im also having the same problem, seems the sound.dat file is corrupted, I tried just ignoring it, hoping it would work itself out in the patcher, but no such luck, Im trying to re-download it now to see if it works.
If anyone has a surefire way of fixing this issue, please post & let us know, thanks.

I'm also encountering the same problem, and I've already tried re-downloading the installer twice, but I still get the same error. :(

Try using a download manager (http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/).
That should help minimize the corrruption errors.

I do use a download manager, but I'll try using the one you posted. Thanks! ^_^
worthless - making a credit card verification to play the trial alienates people who don't use credit cards. I don't even have any credit cards, I buy game time cards for MMOs.. so I guess I'm just screwed huh?? That's ok.. the download was all screwed up and I heard this POS game sucks anyway... I heard ya'll ruined the online version so oh well.. guess you don't get my money. Get your act together, you are shaming the name of D&D.
