View Full Version : A Question re: multiple item effects

How do I tell how many effects can be put on a weapon/item? Some of the effects I've only seen on Raid/Named loot and have no idea if they are a prefix or suffix.
Same with items- saw a +4 Comp. bonus to attack that can be put on Goggles, Trinket and something else I can't remember. Say I want it on Goggles-- can I add another property in addition, or no?
Thanks for helping me sort it out.

2 - 1 prefix and one suffix
Armor, shields and weapons can have increased enhancement bonus as well.

Right, but are item effects such as Lifestealing and Stench prefixes or suffixes? How to tell when you've never seen them on randomly generated loot?

There isn't a way to tell currently.
We're going to end up crafting these things in order to find out things such as Prefix, Suffix, and how much they will change the ML of an item.

The only ones I know so far are Life-stealing is a suffix (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=310189), and Blood is a prefix.

That is incredibly lame. Lack of proper documentation with items is rampant in game and unnaceptable.

I shall answer this quote with another quote. :D
We are purposefully giving you very little information on how crafting works to see how intuitive the system is.

You can tell by the shard name. If it's "Shard of Competence" then the Competence is a suffix. If it's a "Competence Shard" then it's a prefix.
Simple! Except, they really should have mentioned it, you know, somewhere.

Not to derail, but wasn't greensteel the same in it's debut? (ie left to the players to decode). Kind of lends an air of magical power and mystery (same with eldritch device). Sorry, have no way of directly answering OP, other than creating a database of item prefix/suffixes.

That would've been helpful.
When I did my holy scimmi of life stealing I knew it would work because someone else had done it, but I'm having a much harder time figuring out what to do with my FvS focus items since he already have superior life on his armor. Since I can't double up I'm thinking some kind of amp or absorb but who knows.

Armor, shields and weapons can have increased enhancement bonus as well.
Though that might change, perhaps, with expansion of the crafting system. Add Rare Item X to the mix to allow 2 prefixes, etc.

I got it- when you hover over, it says Item of X or X Item....

I've got it... recipes to combine 2 suffixes or 2 prefixes into a compound shard.
Metalline shard + Shocking Burst shard + Conjoining reagent -> Metalline Shocking Burst shard
Deception shard + Pure Good shard + Conjoining reagent -> of Pure Good Deception shard
Combine them all...
+3 Metalline Shocking Burst Longsword of Pure Good Deception
:)

Yes, and it is unintiitive and badly documented in game. Good documentation starts with complete descriptions in game. Descriptions like this is a 'prefix' which modifies the items ML by +2 are about as basic as it gets for this sort of a crafting system.

Do you think that if they give us all the answers it may take the fun out of it for the people that like to figure it out on their own? You know, like it is in pnp and other games. Wait about 1 day after it goes live and it will be on the wiki.

And after one day those people would know the answers also. Yet, all the other players who don't look on a third party site outside of the game are left with the incomplete descriptions. It takes time to look at a wiki as opposed to having it as part of the description in game for those who are smart enough to use it also.
As to the pnp comment...lol. Everytime someone says something about how pnp does something way X I laugh because everyones pnp experience is different. My pnp campaigns have never had a big mystery surrounding the process of creating magical items. As for a mystery in other games last ones I played the system was very transparent as were the end items you would recieve.

The pnp comment was made to highlight the importance of discovering things out for yourself.

I am pretty sure you are engaging in 'wishful thinking' on that one ;)
Not that there is anything wrong with that :D

Could be. :D
Though frankly, if you make it tough enough, and the ingrediants obscure enough, why shouldn't the new system be able to be as good as greensteel, etc? Conceptually, they'll probably go there eventually.
