Yea yea, this is a repost, but my other threat is currently resting in peace on page 6 or something silly with only Aylin responding (Aylin IS awesome, by the way).

I wanted to do a few things with my paladin after I finished his fighter life and paladin life. First, he had to be pure so that I could use weapons like epic brigand's cutlass, chaosblades, and chimera fang to break DR. He also had to be able to tank any boss in the game and take lower damage (saves, AC). This is what I've come up with... It's very heavily derived from Junt's Jaerlach, Defender of Siberys, so take that for what you will.

Weapons: Brigand's Cutlass (Slotted with silver), MinII Khopesh (still working on others...)

---

With my planned gear set, the above stats come out to:
38 strength (15 base + 2 tome + 5 level + 1 enh + 2 exc + 6 item + 4 sacred + 3 profane)
24 dexterity (13 base + 2 tome + 6 item + 3 exc) (22 when not using swashbuckler)
32 constitution (16 base + 2 tome + 7 item + 4 sacred + 3 exceptional)
13 intelligence (11 base + 2 tome)
15 wisdom (8 base + 2 tome + 6 item - 1 (ring of baphomet))
26 charisma (16 base + 2 tome + 7 item + 1 enh + 1 exc - 1 (ring of baphomet))

---

A tentative AC breakdown is:
10 base
7 dexterity
3 profane
17 armor (with ritual)
9 shield (with ritual) (10 currently but Swashbuckler is bugged and has 1 extra AC)
5 deflection
1 haste
2 DoS set bonus
4 stance bonus
2 dodge
4 insight
5 combat expertise
3 barkskin potion
6 aura
3 airship buffs
---
80 self
---
4 inspire heroism
2 recitation
2 barkskin (ranger)
---
88 buffed
---
93 blocking (Possible extra +1 from air guard)

---

A tentative HP breakdown is:
200 base
220 32 con
20 toughness item
62 toughness feat and enh
40 yugoloth pot
40 superior false life
45 shroud item
20 heroic vitality
(10 argo favor, don't own gianthold)
---
667 hp (677)

---

Threat: 100% (Intim) + 100% (Divine Righteousness) + 15% (DoS set) + 20% (Incite on Brigand's Cutlass) = +235% threat

Saves are meaninglessly high (Well into the 40s and fort over 50, possibly).
What do you guys think? :o Let me know if there are any big mistakes or errors in calculation.

(Aylin IS awesome, by the way).

Thank you! :)

My only new comment would be to see if you could fit in the new Shield Mastery feat. I can't remember the exact numbers off the top of my head right now, but it'll reduce the amount of physical damage you take when you hold a shield by a set amount (I think it's -15% damage for a small shield or so).

On mine I'll be dropping Dodge for it. I guess the easiest feat to drop on yours would be Fighter past life, but I know that'd suck to not get the benefit of your past life. =\

if you are a tank in a group with a dedicated healer i don't see the need for maximize and quicken.

but since you don't seem to want a dps mode then i don't know what i'd swap either of those out for, probably at least quicken for extend, as with your concentration, dr, and ac you probably won't need it so much.

depending on your final umd, skill focus: umd might be a consideration over maximize.

i think a dps build [twf or thf] would be more useful, especially with the past lives. by swapping out maximize, quicken and ce for either the thf or twf [with enough dex] lines you could still tank well enough for the few times where that is ideal.

The OP's build is based off of Junts' Paladin, which is a self-healing tank. It lets the tank fight a boss solo, which can mean more DPS for the raid since it's possible to run with a lower number of characters occupying the "healer" role.

I'm building a similar concept, albeit with less epic gear :p, i can't offer hints but i can ask a few more questions:
Where do your insight and deflection bonuses come from? Min2? Epic swashbuckler?
What would you suggest as a first gs? I was thinking about 45hp conc opp goggles.
I also need a few hints on weapon sets as i'd like a 2hander aswell; Atm i'm using holy sword greatsword for boss beating and a crappy khopesh for tanking, where should i aim? Lit2 2handers seem a bit wasted, choices for 1hander w/o epic slots ;)?

Oh Kourier, I just remembered about the new upgrade to Chaosegarde in U9. Wrist slot still, Dodge +2, Toughness, and DR/Law I think. Would let you keep Toughness on 100% of the time.

Epic Swashbuckler has it, yep.

In order to get the full +6 CHA skills bonus, I've gotten into the habit of making one item with Wizardy 6 and +35 HP, and the other with +10 HP and +150 SP. I think goggles would be good, since that acts as your WIS item generally, and you want that ASAP.

Well, a Lit 2 would let you put Insight 4 on it, so you could keep that AC bonus while in THF mode, and it's a lot better DPS than a Holy Sword. Mineral 2 also works.

How much DPS would you lose dropping khopesh and using scimitars (e.g., epic Cutlass) instead? That would let you squeeze in one of the shield feats.

I could do that, but I already made a minII khopesh... so lazy... I guess if I use bastard swords without proficiency I can use khopeshes without proficiency. Oh well. That's a good idea. Perhaps I can change khopesh proficiency to shield mastery.

The deflection comes from any friendly cleric or whatever casting shield of faith. At worst I can just drink +3 pots.

Ooh man, I saw that! Not sure if I can afford the new pack but that is definitely up there. Umm... That means I can wear my torc 24/7! Yay!

Ok, so I think the build is bullet proof, hehe. Only several million more xp to go...
