Hi everyone, I just downloaded DDO and installed it today. I've been looking around the forums and at the stickies at the top of this forum. From what I see, the community certainly seems very friendly towards new players, which is great. After reading through some of the 'new players read this' type threads, I'm still not exactly sure which servers are the best for new players. I've found a few threads on good builds for newbies though and hope to get to know the game much better in the coming days. Anyway, just wanted to stop in and say hello!

Hello, and welcome to the game!
All the servers are pretty much similar - they have a mix of old and new player etc. However, the Orien and Cannith servrs are relatively "newer", so both servers supposedly have a bigger proportion of new players.
Don't worry though, you can just pick any server and build your character to try it out. You can roll up to 2 toons on each server, if you're free2play (F2P) so you can get a taste of each server while familiarising yourself with your build and DDO. In this way, you also gain additional bonus Turbine Points (TP) through first time favour unlocked bonuses on each server.
If you're not sure which class to build etc, here's a thread with lots of builds and all 100% new player friendly:

as a pretty new player myself i feel there isn't any really new player friendly server specifically
you get idiots and good players on every server
i've decided to make my home on orien b/c i met a good group of players there that are friendly and fun to play with
could have done the same on any server i'd guess
well excepting thelanis... seems to be home to... well nvm that

I play on Cannith, but every server I have wondered over to has been pretty solid. You'll find guys that won't spend the time to help new guys and you'll find ones who will. Try a server out and see what you like to play and get to know the people in your range even if you can solo things on your own.
Enjoy

Hi welcome!
I suggest you choose 7 of your favourite builds then start each one on a seperate server and get 100 favour on each before deciding which to play. you should do this so you can:
a) find the build for you
b) find the server for you
c) get a load of TP (25,50,75,100 i believe is the progression) for your first toon per server getting 25TP each increment for a total of 280TP
d) maybe even find the guild for you :)

This advice is mostly correct. However, the numbers in point C are wrong. On each server you get one time Turbine Point awards the first time you reach the following favor levels on one character:
5 favor - 50 TP
25 favor - 25 TP
50 favor - 25 TP
500 favor - 50 TP
1,000 favor - 100 TP
2,000 favor - 100 TP
3,000 favor - 100 TP
So, the low hanging fruit is obviously 50 favor, which is the equivalent of running all the Korthos quests on hard difficulty. In addition, every character get 25 TP for each 100 favor they get. Therefore, it is often recommended to get at least 100 favor on each server to get a quick 50 + 25 + 25 + 25 = 125 TP. As there are currently 7 servers, you can get 7 x 125 = 875 TP fairly quickly which can buy you something like warforged race or a mid level adventure pack.

Thelanis has a mix of newer players, role players, permadeath, flower sniffers, min/maxers, and older elite vet players.
