I'm new to DDO, my "main" toon is my lv7 32pt paly. I bought vet status and Drow the other day. I'm looking at making this drow something different then my paly.

When I played WOW for 3yrs, my paly was my main and my warlock was my 2nd. They were different enough for me to keep the game fresh and I'd like to do this with DDO. I'm a casual player and not very into every single minute detail about the races and classes, I'm still trying to learn all the lingo and abbreviations you all use....

I dont know if this will help but, I've always played my characters as a paly type of class. I like to be able to solo everything I can so healing myself either by magic or potions is important, doing as much DPS as I can and being able to take as much damage as I can. Hence the reason a Paly works out well for my playstyle. It's always been a well rounded class in any MMO game I've played.

Now I'd like to break my own mold and try something different but not so completely different that I would be lost when playing it. What does DDO have that a DROW would be good at considering it's base stats, and that it's different enough from a paly so it wont feel like I'm playing the same kinda toon?????

Sorcerer, Wizard, or Pally. Possibly bard?
If you want to be able to heal, either Wizard 18 Rogue 2 or Sorcerer 20 (or pale master wizard). Bards are decent for self heals too, but I personally don't think they're very survivable.
If you have a THF pally, a TWF drow pally is quite a bit different. If you have monk, they can also be a tank with a 2 level splash of monk.
Rogue? Drow's stats work well with rogues. No self-heals except for UMD though, which will START to be high enough to use in the mid levels (~10-12).

Sounds like your off to a good start.. a non melee toon already :D

Just forget everything you ever learned.. Start fresh

Dont fret... we need more crate-smashers.

Piker-pally build. I like it. Solos EVERY QUEST. and as far as taking damage? Your pally will take lots. Promise

Almost any class at all. Stay away from the class with a mailed fist in front of its name and you will experience Joys of playing anything. You may find your playstyle altering from piker-build to, why almost anything. :D Enjoy and Cast aside your old pally carcass from a real class and be bustin caps in behinds galore.... But have faith.. Any class can pike.... but none as well as pally.

get up into some of the higher lvls before you go making a new toon.

if you want to pike make a heal spec bard.

Furb again... I don't suppose you looked at the DPS chart I posted on the other thread yet. Here it is again. http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=299620&highlight=dps+chart
Pallies are not useless and do not suck. And I cannot stand playing fighters.

I didn't think people actually bought Drow, since it's easy enough to get for free with 400 favor.

I've made a Drow rogue and a Drow TWF paladin, and enjoy both. You might end up having the most fun with a bard, though; if you want to play something really different to keep the game fresh.

Drow has the most synergys with a TWF (Rapier+Shortsword) Warchanter Bard with Trapskills.

16 Bard, 2 Rogue, 2 Fighter.

Just wanted to note that buying Drow was probably not the best idea as it can be unlocked with only 400 favour, which you can grind out in a day or two. I know it's too late now, but un-case anybody else considering buying the Drow race checks in here.

I'm not a big drow fan myself, but if you want to try something different from a paladin, try rogue out. Make sure to max UMD and look for some decent gear so that you can use heal-scrolls as your primary mode of self-healing. Sorcerer would be another options, but they can be tricky to start. Honestly I'd recommend leveling up your main and learning more about the game mechanics before rolling another character.

Maybe look into the favored soul...however, I think you have to buy it as well. I have a sub so I am not sure.

Take it with a grain of salt as I have never made one, but you kind of get a blend of everything there. You can be melee with healing spells if you go a certain route, you get a big man/scorpion pet. I am not sure what kind of damage they can do though. Sort of like your wow warlock...leaning twards melee.

The less melee ddo version of your wow warlock would be the wizard going for the pale master (necromancer) build. You can summon and undead minion to fight for you.

I ended up making a favored soul. Going to try that out and see how it is. I'll end up making a Bard and a Wizard, once I know the game more.

Also, I bought ALOT of TB points when they had the double bonus points a month or two ago and purchased everything in the store except another character slot. I'm not that type of gamer anymore that can play more then a few toons in an MMO, so the 4 that I get as a premium F2P player is fine.
