I've always wanted to try to make a Long-sword using cleric work. I came with this 17Cleric/3Monk.

What do you guys think? My biggest concern is how tight the feats are, thanks to the WSS prereqs. Should I drop some of the melee feats for metas? I also considered getting the Sov. Host enhancements instead of the charisma enhancements, but I think the charisma will benefit me more. I'm going for a slightly heavier emphasis on melee, but I'm pretty open to ideas either way.

One feat that i would highly recomend having is quicken, it will help with quick healing as you are fighting, and using mass heal at 20. Im trying to think of how to fit it in, the problem is that there is no feats to swich it out for, maybe grt TWF, but thats the only one i can think of. you could also add one fighter over the 3rd lvl of monk and free up one feat spot for it. Other then that it looks good!

Good luck

Having played a build that was similar I have to say I hated it and settled on a 17/3 unarmed build instead that i enjoyed much more.

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=290046&highlight=breaks+tide

That link shows my final build, and in the OP i linked the thread where a very in depth discussion took place regarding a WSS clonk.

With levels in Wis and having PA, will you be able to hit? That's my main concern with the build. And yeah, fists are probably better.

Longsword using monk (or clonk) is a waste of 2 feats.

If you really want to do it, then the point of it is to build ki and keep spamming your FoL finisher.

You'll find that this is particularly ineffective in group play - it'll be nice for solo stuff, but you'll get frustrated that you can't really kill anything with the terrible DPS you'll be outputting with the longswords (especially with no str).

Doing it with fists is much better since you'll be able to fit the feats you need

The to-hit should be ok. Not great, but ok. It should land somewhere around +40ish.

I think the actual damage output and lack of spellcasting feats are much more of a concern. You may want to consider swapping in a quicken, but the feats are definitely tight. The way I see it, you pretty much have 3 options here (listed in order of my recommendation):

1. Give up WSS. Use wraps and you can grab 2 metamagics.
2. Give up your light path. Take a level (or two) of fighter, grab the rogue dil, and take quicken.
3. Keep the build as it is. Sure, it's not in any way optimal, but I always say we play the game to have fun. If you're dead set on this as it is, it shouldn't be too bad as a flavor build.

With regards to point 3...

I totally agree, but will also let the OP know that trying a similar build myself I was very unsatisfied and am much more happy with my build i linked.

He's right, but kamas are so annoying and unremarkable that you may want to take longswords as a flavor build.

If I was going to do it i would go 18/2 with longswords and not be centered.

I would also stick with handwraps or maybe even switch to staves; that lets you drop DEX & the TWF chain to focus on more metamagics. Not that you really need the extra healing from FoL on a cleric in the first place, but it's a fun idea. :)

I was messing with a staff-wielding HO monk / cleric build. I don't expect DPS to be great, but I'm hoping HO melee enhs help out enough to not be an embarrassment. :p

stafes?.. no...
longswords? no

here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=309106) is an basic weapon comparason.
longsword is about the same as an +1kama in that sheet (that one had imp crit 19-20) so without IC i dunno.

you got the most awesome weapon known in ddo, unarmed strikes. id suggest you use them!

edit: it is near the battle axe, not the kama*

Hey i just made your build, with the 3 Monk levels, no ftr.
It's pretty awsome, with evasion and self-heal, you it give you some mad avantages for solo play.
I've been able to solo a couple of 4's & 5's on elite w/out hires.
I don't know how it will look and work on higher lvl but for the moment, i really like it.
Thank you posting !
