View Full Version : Would you keep playing?

If you logged on, first time in almost two months, with no work, lady is at work, literally nothing that needed done but some long put off gaming.
And you found that your ingredient bag, with around 30-40 lg scales/stones, and 80+ of all the garbage ones, was completely gone?
I have a ticket open, and am hoping to get lucky there. I have already spent the last two hours checking every single toons inventory and bank. Twice when I didn't find it the first time.
For those that have had this happen to them, any other advice?
Just at a loss. Not looking for commiseration. I know that it sucks. I'm just curious if you would even bother to keep playing if it happened to you?

Honestly, Green Steel is great in some cases but not as dominating as it once was.

I'd keep playing.
This happened to a number of my guildees over the years. They didn't get them back. They did get back on their feet quickly with donations from guildees and a few "donation runs" (all larges given to the one person).

Wait, what?!
Wow...that sucks Sam :(
Were you trying to do anything with it when the server crashed, like put it in the bank? Could have gone *poof* that way. Not that that helps your situation, but just trying to think of what might have happened.
As for if I'd keep playing, yeah, probably. Ingredients can be made up, and I always have Cerial to suck up to :D Not saying it wouldn't make me die a little inside, though.

Yes.
However, please note that I don't actually have any of that stuff to lose (been playing since Sept. '09, and still not one capped character). I play for the fun, not for the grind.

From my perspective (mind you I'm a terrible person to ask this question of) it's just stuff.
Nice stuff. Hard to find stuff. Important stuff maybe... but still just stuff.
I'd be bummed, maybe even a bit ****ed, but I wouldn't quit over it. Just like I wouldn't stop writing a book if my computer crashed and lost the last ten pages I'd just written... I'd go back to my notes, and hammer them back out... (this has actually happened to me, and yes I did).
Using the book analogy, in that case, the lost ten pages ended up being more fun to write the second time through, because I was able to see all the things I'd done wrong the first time through, and fix all the inconsistancies that had snuck in while I was rushing to get through said pages.
Then again, I could be wrong, and you could've just lost a lot of versitile solutions for modern living. /durden

Different strokes there. I have not enjoyed playing the game since the introduction of Dungeon Alert. Literally and seriously, since that time, I no longer enjoy questing. I do, however, still enjoy making builds, and part of builds is unique loot (like my ooze-based bard). With that option gone, though, maybe someone trying to tell me to move on.
Wait, what?!

I was in a Tower when the servers crashed yesterday, so I'm leaning towards that not being the issue. Hard to say for sure though; I do have a bugged Heroic Deeds in my inventory.

Honestly, I would still play.
If I had that many stockpiled, then it means I didn't really need them. Yes, it has much in common with a vacuum, maybe even MegaMaid, but there's still the fact that I had so many and was not using them.
If/when you start farming them again, you'll still have a bag full of ingredients that you're not going to use.

If I had that many stockpiled, then it means I didn't really need them.
Actually it meant I was about to craft 5 tierII items over two characters, but since it was a drastic equipment re-alignment, it meant that I didn't want to finalize it until I got two more epic items I wanted to grab first.

Nerfing my charm armies didn't stop me.
Nerfing my summon armies didn't stop me.
Being kicked out of almost every guild I've been in didn't stop me.
Losing touch with many in-game friend didn't stop me.
Looting a wife and daughter didn't stop me.
Greensteel nerfs didn't stop me.
Dungeon alert didnt stop me.
TWF nerf didn't stop me.
Deleting everything and starting over several times didn't stop me.
Spell changes didn't stop me.
The upcoming spell changes won't stop me.
Losing a bag of ingredients wouldn't stop me.
'course, I've been on f2p/premium for quite some time now so it's a lot easier to swallow a jagged pill. But yeah, I'd keep playing.

Mailing a bag with that much stuff in it is expensive. I have always used the shared bank once I realized I was spending over 1k plat per stamp to mail it around. At this point, I have checked every character I own twice, even name holders that I don't play. Just waiting on the ticket now.

Check the AH someone selling a large bag (assuming it was not bound). It might have been you... Seriously I have picked up a few bags over the years that had stuff in them, that the first owner left inside. (You can't see what it is, just that the weight of the bag is too high and that it has slots filled.)
The buy back check at a barkeep is another good thing to give a shot with. Make sure it is with the character that you believe last had the bag.

I thought I had done that before... my heart was is my stomach.. I actually did find it on some RARELY used Mule... I do share a Large bag (of each type) between all toons. I Try to log out with all put in a bank for the next person to you.. All the bags are "locked" though so they aren't sellable or droppable... I can't imagine a way it can be lost.
Sorry for your strife mate.
SideNote.. After my "near loss" I did make a "back up bag" from a different Large Ingrediants bag where I put about 40 of each small, 30 of each Med.. and bout 15-20 of each non stone/ scale large in.. I like to only keep 5-10 of any large 15-20 of all meds and smalls in my "MAIN" everyone uses bag.. and every once in awhile. I round that one down and store the spares in my back up.
Good luck with your ticket!

Closed without response? Nice. Cancel your sub and refer to that ticket as the reason.
That kind of CS is a problem. Even saying "sorry, we can't help" would be better.
Would I leave? I'm be upset enough I'd probably cancel. Would I come back...probably.

Not buying any more raid packs / epic packs when the new stuff comes out eh?
I see this alot when people say they wont spend another red cent, and I see them rocking the new content a week or two into it. I dont think their guildies are buying them repeated guest passes, heh. This is similar to the sheer number of people who have ragequit over similar issues as loudly as possible, and then came slinking back into the system a week or two later all quiet style.
The best answer I have seen for this so far is: Is DDO fun for you?
Depends on why you play the game. Many people play to socialize and game with friends and to them they could care less if they have the best gear or not. To them it still sucks and is a set back but they likely wont quit pver it. Others play to farm the best gear for specific builds, and that type of loss may be a huge set back for them. If they see it as being equated with the amount of time spent getting the items, they may just cut their losses and move on to something else.

I have not enjoyed playing the game since the introduction of Dungeon Alert. Literally and seriously, since that time, I no longer enjoy questing.
Wow... that sucks... So killing the monsters as you move through the quest ruins the entire quest for you? It's no fun at all if you have to slow down to kill stuff?
It does sound like you're done with this game if questing is no fun.
Sorry you lost all your stuff... I would definitely quit if I I lost all that, and I hated running quests too...

Yeah the CS not responding definitely doesn't help situations...
If the game is fun, you'll end up coming back anyway so I probably wouldn't /ragequit just yet.
What server are you on? Perhaps the forums could be your savior and some of us might send you a piece of what you lost to keep a good player in the game? I mean, I haven't been in the game all that long (if I had only discovered this gem sooner...) and I don't have much to give, but I also know there is a lack of forum-reading good players out there. Losing one more due to DDO CStupidity (tm) doesn't seem like a good move for the community.
I know from playing this game that there are those who have been here a long time that go far above the call of duty to help others out. Help us help you, if only because we can do a better job of it than the GMs and CS... ;)

"Wow, so...you like sniffing the floor in every quest so you can try to guess exactly how many hobgoblins walked on it ever? Right after you've taken charcoal rubbings of the walls, and written a poem about the fungus growing in the corner? So, like, if they put 3 flowers on that patch of grass instead of 2, that would ruin the game for you?"
Wow... that sucks... So killing the monsters as you move through the quest ruins the entire quest for you? It's no fun at all if you have to slow down to kill stuff?
Naw. Arbitrary game mechanics just suck, period.
I would love to see a DM banter this right in the middle of a tabletop gaming session that is starting to get good. "Well, looks like you alerted the 12th monster to your presence in their lair, so you all now have -5 to saves, move 2 squares instead of the normal 6, and cant shield block, tumble, or do anything else that would get you out of trouble through using mobility to your advantage. Why? Because I said so thats why. What, you dont like killing your way through the quest? You dont like doing the module my way, which is the only right way?"
The next sound you would hear is the sound of whatever the chair legs are made of scraping against whatever the floor is made of, as every player in the room pushed their chairs back getting ready to leave.
D&D is a situational game, and this is what separates other games from the sammich clone games. In WOW or EQ, you basically move forward, kill, move forward, kill, rinse, repeat. DA changes DDO to attempt to force players to play this way. Its the new players that get hurt the most here (who are searching for a breath of fresh air from regular sammich gaming) - as most of us veteran players can play through most dungeon alert anyhow. Kill zone tactics go all the way back to the first Doom and Quake in the video game world, and people even use kill zone tactics in P&P games. Limiting this playstyle here just takes DDO one step closer to the mindless questing of WOW. Move forward, kill, move forward, kill, move forward, kill. This is the only right way to quest. /facepalm.

There are places where dungeon alert makes sense and then there are dungeons where it makes no sense at all, however the mechanic itself is entirely pointless especially when they don't even need to actually hit you in order for the debuff to apply *looking at 0 damage grazing hits*
And it's like Chai said. The entire mechanic is completely arbitrary and a lazy effort on their part to try and MAKE YOU kill things as a cover up to their **** poor AI system that couldn't handle more than ~50 active mobs at one time in one active dungeon.
How about they actually improve the mob AI infrastructure instead of saying "you can't run by things anymore, you need to kills everytingz!"?

Obviously, there's a middle ground... If I said, I can't enjoy the quests in this game unless I kill every last enemy and search every single room, and complete every single optional... I would be mocked as well...
The only way DA is an issue in this game is if you are an EXTREME zerger, running past everything... DA is trivial to avoid in 98% of the quests... Avoiding it by killing a few monsters as you move through a quest is EASY for a good player (which the OP is).
So if he chooses not to, and HATES running quests.... That's his choice... If he can't stand to kill a few monsters, if that is totally not fun, then yes, he should quit.
Again, though, I am truly sorry about his ingrediant loss... That would totally suck... I really do like the idea of separating my ingrediants into two bags instead of one master bag... I may have to do that myself.

It's a computer game... we don't have a human DM... What do you think a human DM would do if the players tried to run past everything in the quest? He'd adapt, he'd make it a non-viable tactic. We don't have a human DM, so DA stands in for that.

I really do like the idea of separating my ingrediants into two bags instead of one master bag... I may have to do that myself.
After people starting losing things in bags (and from shared banks space), I started parking my ingredients and other valuable in the inventory of a bank character. While that isn't 100% safe either, it seems like a safer option. I keep collectables on one bank character, epic crafting stuff on another, and weapons and items on others.

I've been super busy with rl lately, but I'd gladly help you get back on your feet with rare items or whatever you need (handy?).
It's a computer game... we don't have a human DM... What do you think a human DM would do if the players tried to run past everything in the quest? He'd adapt, he'd make it a non-viable tactic. We don't have a human DM, so DA stands in for that.
He would be restricting a playstyle called killzone gaming, which I have seen used successfully multiple times, using a completely arbitrary means to do so. I hope he likes collecting, because those source books he has will not likely see too much other action once this catches on in the community. No, DA is not a replacement for a human DM, not by a long shot.
But that's not what is required to avoid DA... You don't have to move forward, kill, move forward, kill, move forward, kill...
If you dont you will start to suffer arbitrary penalties after trying to round up the first two encounters or so in an elite quest.
I have run all quests at all levels over the past year, and DA is almost never a factor... And yes, we choose our battles, we use kill zones, we run past stuff, we split up...
DA is a factor for new players mostly, who dont have the gear or metagaming knowledge to play this game at the elite level as of yet, but are still familiar with kill zone tactics through using them effectively in previous games.
We just don't run past everything... You have to REALLY avoid fighting to get into orange and red DA territory. ...
Incorrect. One prime example: All you have to do is walk next to the room with the beholder in it in Bastion of Power LOL. There are two walls between you and any mob that has aggro on you, and for that arbitrary reason, you now take the afore mentioned penalties. /DA fail
To the OP... If the game isn't fun, don't play anymore.
This is something I agree with. Too many people dont follow this advice and end up on the forums threatening to leave every time the game changes.

No, DA is not a replacement for a human DM, not by a long shot.
Of course it isn't.. It's impossible to replace a human DM... What method do you suggest to stop people from running past EVERYTHING to the end-boss?
If you dont you will start to suffer arbitrary penalties after trying to round up the first two encounters or so in an elite quest.
DA does not trigger that fast...
Incorrect. One prime example: All you have to do is walk next to the room with the beholder in it in Bastion of Power LOL. There are two walls between you and any mob that has aggro on you, and for that arbitrary reason, you now take the afore mentioned penalties. /DA fail
Bastion of Power is one of maybe three (five tops) where DA is still broken... Using it as an example is disingeneous, at best... I expected better of you... Yes, it's broken in there. That doesn't mean it's broken everywhere...
I have had extensive experience PUGing in all levels in all quests in the last year (as I TRed multiple characters)... DA is non-factor... I hardly EVER saw anything above green.... And we split up, and we ran past archers, and gathered mobs at choke-points... No DA... What we didn't do is run past every mob.

All in all, at least for the moment, I am going to give a shot at staying and see how annoyed I get being broke again.
At least this gives me some motivation to go clear out some banks to try and make some money. The exchange rate plat-->>ings sucks; but it's really my only option other than setting up a weekly shroud night to run through with on a bunch of peeps. (><)
I don't have the time to type out and post for trade all of the primarily garbage and lowbie items cloggin up the banks, but if you are looking for something specific, post it up or PM me, and I'll keep an eye while I am cleaning out. I'm sure I'll find a few gems even I didn't know I had while doing this.
If you want to donate to the Samadhi-is-a-noob-again fund, please send donations to either Samadhi (retired for years and doesn't have a thing of value to auction).
Peace all. Looks like the ranger is going to stay poorly equipped (/cry just getting him an envenomed cloak) but other than that it just means more reason to focus on my already equipped toons instead of catching-up the other alts. Not necessarily a bad thing.
See you in game soon.

My Xbf... Deleted my account & toons 2 1/2 years ago & I wanted to cry...
All my toons were capped at lvl 16 & much grinding out of the way Wanting "Green steal" on all my toons!
The Devs told me "Can't help Ya" I was at a lose of what to do..
Needless to say When I logged on I found I didn't loose my 32pt build making... I was Happy :D
I did how ever loose all the neat items that No longer drop.. or are hard to find! Min lvl 2 Star of Irian, & Lots lots more!!!
& to top the cake "The Devs" want to give me back my toons for a cost $20. bucks each one... LOL
I currently have 19 toon slots & 2 Trd toons & Plenty of "Green Steal" Items & Will not give them $hit for my old toons!!!
Best part about the XBF deleting my account is he did the same to his account & I have 2 accounts with 32 pts builds.. One is free to play :)
Good Luck to Ya Sami!! Game is still fun just have to know what to do & how to do it :P
Not buying any more raid packs / epic packs when the new stuff comes out eh?
Have not spent a cent since a few months after EU came out. Have everything in game that is permanent except half elves (not going to bother unless a 50% sale or I see a real need to have 5+ TR's being run at the same time). Still have points to buy new stuff without any issues.
My TR's keep my in points and since I never buy consumables/TR hearts I spend very little points. Turbine just does not come out with new content at a very fast pace.

Of course it isn't.. It's impossible to replace a human DM... What method do you suggest to stop people from running past EVERYTHING to the end-boss?
DA does not trigger that fast...
Question for you Thrudh, do you have some sort of mental condition that accounts for this behavior? Like brain cancer? or space aids? Have you ever been deprived of oxygen for more than a few minutes? Maybe an unfortunate fall in a lake covered in ice? Did someone beat you about the head over and over? Are you an x-nfl quarterback sacked 1000s of times? Because I mean, man, I'm sorry if any of those things happened to you, and I'll defend your right to keep spouting obviously brain damaged opinions until the end of time, or you finally die from whatever it is that has so devastated your mind. whichever comes first.
otherwise, please stop trolling unrelated threads with..... this.

Ticket closed without even a response from a GM.
This is why so many players have so little respect for Turbine.
Was their "customer service" like this before they introduced free-to-play?

Ticket closed without even a response from a GM. Lovely. Least my 3 month sub is close to a re-up point.
Did you check the ticket status? That's where they leave notes.

Hard to say.
I have only 1 toon which I have TR'ed multiple times and I keep playing on it. If I lost the toon, I would quit playing the game.
If I lost only the ingredients bag? Hmmh. Probably not. I hope my life isn't really about it.
It would **** me off and maybe I took a break. Hard to say.

I'd keep playing. If I had 30~40 large ingredients laying around, obviously I wasn't using them for anything anyway. Heck, I probably got 40 large gnawed bones laying around, now that I think about it...
DDO doesn't seem like the kind of game that lends itself to hoarding, anyways. Odds are your treasure of today is going to be vendor trash tomorrow.

It was worse before IMO.

Muchos gracias mi amigo. Would rather you just come back and farm more with me :D but I'll take the second option instead.

Since you've been playing for a long time, my guess is that those ingredients were just there for future use. I'd guess that you don't have a pressing need for a new greensteel today. If that's the case, keep playing.
Sure, if you're gearing up a new character, being able to go from zero greensteels to 6 the instant you get the shards is nice but it really doesn't directly impact your established characters.
Keep playing.
(and, yeah, it sucks, sorry it happened to you)

I have logged in a bunch of times and found my ingredient bag was missing. Then I usually find it on an alt. DANG IT TURBINE QUIT MOVING MAH STUFF!
