Seems a little too easy, but, my level 17 sorc has the DC of a wet sponge in the crystal cove and takes forever to get any map pieces so I got me some grog and went to the harbor. But, seems kinda too easy.
Have to admit though it is fun using grease without getting scolded. Just don't want the hammer to come down for collecting map peices too easily.

Hilarious. I admit, I loled irl.
But seriously, though, I've stuck to that. I go solo quests for favor while I gather my dubloons and map pieces and then guildies usually announce when cc is up.

As far as I know, this is WAI much like the Nightflask(or whatever it was called) from Mabar when you could go into any quests with undead and get the Motes of Night from the undead.
I really see no problem with it.
It does net you a good amount of map pieces when you solo that quest. Much more solo than with a party.
It also puts that quest to good use so it is useful for something. I don't really care for that quest otherwise.

Oh it is a blast, I put on full plate armor, a shield and some cheap weapon, have 50% arcane spell failure and spam grease, disco balls and kill in between dancing with and hugging the kobolds.
Other times just get my pet herazou to do all the work and I spam grease. I like grease.
hmmm, you can farm fire creatures for ice coins, ....
undead for motes, ....
humanoids for doubloons, ....
Seems that the events are designed for players to do this.

But it takes a genius to figure it out....................

I forgot that was possible, because I used to just go where the fire <name escapes me at the moment> ( starts with "M") and picked up my coins that way. I thought I read it somewhere that you can get pieces in that way.
Guess that would work better for the lower levels complaining about running into higher level mobs, due to High levels being in the same area.
can one get Compasses too ? or is it just map Pieces ?

Not sure but I believe compasses are randomly generated...........
ran KA a total of 8 times solo yesterday. 4 times with a sorc, 4 times with a fvs. got nearly 200 map pieces from each set of 4. not a single compass. plenty of doubloons to buy one, tho. :D

Compasses don't drop while "groged".
I found that Buthers path is better for my wizard lv 9 (exp. retreat, jump, greater inferno IV and go).
It is around 30 maps per run (3-4 min -> I finish before greater inferno cliekie finish) on the way i kill chest ambush to get enought kills before finish (also if you jump in some places there is possibility that you loose some spawns)), and enought dubloons for few more grogs and compases.

I was getting around 70 map pieces per clearing of KA. I just go in on casual and drop cloudkill. Install kills them all...

okay, sounds like a good spot for my Bard, kuz he already has a ton of Compasses, really don't need any more, doubt I could use all that he has now. He just does not need any more, but my Fighter does, so my fighter will stay in Smugglers rest.
I may have to try KA out :D
Thanks to Butcher's Path, I only need Rubies and green Dragon Shards for the items I want from the box. Plenty of dubs and map pieces.

why? its actually faster and even more absurd cuz you can run it faster! - i just wish there was some way to bottle and sell all the kobold juice generated by a fully armored and battle hasted intimitank pulling everything into reach of his dual-wielding kensei master vorpal-bladed kobold grinding machine!!! ;) - is that over-powered ?!? (maybe just a bit!) oh well !!! i can live with myself LOL

I've heard that Stealthy Repossession can be a fast grog area, too. Keep killing everything, autofail, go back in, rinse and repeat. Some say it can give kills faster than Kobold Assault.
Good idea Dulci!!! Will try it today, revenge for the early AT Level fails of stealthy!!!

I zone in on normal, summon my earth elemental and then go afk for 10 mins, come back re-summon the elemental and go afk again.

Kobold Assault Casual: ~420 map pieces per hour, no running required.
Butcher's Path: ~450 map pieces per hour, lots of running required.
Stealthy Repossession: 210 map pieces per hour, lots of running required.
Arzag-Khor Village in The Tear of Dhakaan: 244 map pieces per hour, lots of running and had to get there first.
I'll be running KA. Dwarven Thrower, Auto-Target enabled, hold left mouse button and turn a bit.

A hard call.
Map pieces being awarded for killing things = WAI according to the description of the pirate's grog, and matches the functionality of mabar draught. - Suggests its fine.
Getting 30-40 map pieces in 3 mins from super zerging BP dropping 4-5 blade barriers on the way seems like a massive easy button. - Raises suspicion that its not fine.
I know one person on Orien is stockpiling towards a stack of 5000 to open a cove almost immediately.

I did Butchers just for 20 minutes worth, 70. Guess I should have stayed for the whole hour. as a lvl 5 on Norm guess it takes me longer to complete, I went back out there again later to collect some more, but forgot to buy Grog, then I noticed, I was outta Silver, so couldn't purchase any :o:(, was getting tired any ways, But I went in there any ways, without the Grog = no map pieces, I thought maybe one or 2 at least

Heh - assume a sustained rate of 4 clicks a second for turning them in, that's still 20 minutes of non-stop clicking.
Carpal tunnel anytime soon? :D

Yea...I've had 200 and it takes too long. I would like to be able to turn in more than one at a time.

Yeah, of any complaints about the event, this must have been my top one. Using a laptop with a fingerpad, and an average of 250 pieces each turn-in, I think I blunted my pokey finger after a while.

Do you get map pieces from humanoids your summoned elemental kills?

I ran Kobold assault for map pieces yesterday on someones suggestion. Then I figured Butchers Past would be better as the Kobolds are confined and you don't have to wait for them.
Was on a lvl 20 cleric. I initially thought Blade Barrier but went with Firestorm. Clears an entire room and has a short cool down.
Was getting 25-30 maps for a 2-3 minute run.
I suspect if more folk were farming maps this way the cove would open more often as even 400 an hour for one person would require only 12.5 people to open in an hour.
Running round the Smugglers Rest is way slower.
And as they had the Grog during the first event and people talked about Kobold assault then, I can't see how it's an exploit.

Eh, it's easy to write a little script that spams [leftclick] when you hold down a key. It's just how fast the game will recieve it that then limits, which from my experiences of just clicking semi-rapidly it would still probably take 10 minutes to turn in 5k pieces when you factor in the input lag. I'd say by the time 6 or 7 minutes had passed the cove would be open again.

except that if turbine catches you writing or using a script in their game you will be subject to hmmm, disciplinary action.
try reading the code of conduct/eula some time.

others would be turning in, so I doubt they'll get to dump all 5000
I agree it is much faster with Grog and outside of Smugglers Rest is a much faster way to collecting Map pieces, even for a low level, also the low level would still be getting EXP from it, may take them 3-6 times longer, but it is still a faster collection.
The thought of every one or almost everyone even a 20+ amount of players spending an hour, could result in a double openings, which would work out great for those with less time to spend Online playing, For some they may only have enough time to do the 2 runs and some map collecting, this way, they'll get 4 runs in (saying there is enough turn-ins to reopen immediately after first 2)

This doesn't work for me. Any idea what you are doing differently?
My summoned dog from the Roderick's Wand, normal Hezrou summon via the spell, and Mass Suggestion all result in Kobolds being killed without me getting any Doubloons/Map Pieces.

ahh silly question possibly
You did drink a grog ? If you don't drink, you get nothing ( map pieces or Doubloons)

Lol, yes. These tests were between my normal killing via blade barrier, Dwarven Thrower, etc. (which I was receiving Doubloons/Map Pieces for).

OK I assume its ok then, will farm my heart out so we can have more openings Australian evening time when we usually have to wait hours...
I guess its is ok as gaining all those map pieces helps everyone out, not just yourself.

Maybe it's because I have run it so many times but Kobolds new ringleader also works pretty freaking well. It's about 50 kills in 2 minutes which is a better rate then Kobold assault and slightly faster then Butchers path. You just basically gather the enemies into 2 groups to kill (helps to have an AoE spell like BB or FW) one group on each side of the jump, just open the doors to gather all the enemies and zoom back to kill em all, then do the same on the other side (hitting the levers) and kill them all again.
Runs are 2 mins long....map pieces around 25-30 on average. Also get plenty of doubloons for compasses if you need them. Main point is to get the compasses in my opinion as after a point the map pieces don't matter so much. Using that method you can net 500 map pieces + per hour easily....which already takes quite awhile to turn in.

I was just coming in to say same thing (about Ringleader). The 25-30 sounds about right, my first run it was 22, but my second was 31, but my 3rd was 26. The some one said CC was open, so I ran to CC instead of finishing up the Grog run.
Butchers patch I was only getting 30-40, and it took me twice the time , so Ringleader is my new spot for map piece farming.
The first event, I farmed Gems for Doubloons, heck I think it is better farming map pieces for Doubloons. I already have more then enough compasses, just need more Grog, and one hour running is more then enough map pieces to turn into Doubloons to stock up on some Grog
it takes me 5 minutes to run ringleader, But I'm looting too, not running it like I would for favor ;), and it takes me 10 minutes to do Butchers path
