View Full Version : Dear Turbine please announce sales in advance

Customers have asked several times to be notified in advance, particularly for one-day-only sales. Now that you have more international customers, it's doubly inconsiderate for them that a sale is announced ON the day of the sale.
So now today there's a sale on Supreme Tomes at 50% off. It was announced just now. Not yesterday as something to look forward to, now.
Please announce sales in advance. We've asked for this many times. Thanks.

Hi Irinis,
as someone who has a few spare TPs, I've been waiting for the tomes to be on sale for a while, following the "staff picks" and Turbine Tuesdays closely. Still, I managed to miss this information and can't find it on the DDO store page. Could you pls link it?
Thx in advance,
Infant

good to know, thx...
I always forget, that I have to check the Dev tracker in the AFTERNOON (local, EU time) for today's information, not during the morning Email/browser- session :).
As Irinis pointed out, it would be nice for the the international customer base if Turbine announced one-day sales in advance...

And there are some that are announced nowhere ?
- like the half elf in the current deals

No - and my apologies for the clumsy phrasing.
The sales are always mentioned here on the forum - but not always in-game or in the launcher. Which to me seems like a backwards way to handle a sale, since only a tiny slice of the gaming population visits the forums. But, that is not my row to hoe.
If you want to know what is going on with the Store - it's best to check the forums before anything else.

They might even add a feature to receive emails about sales if people opt for it and yes they should be announced at least one day in advance.
lol - that's like asking retailers to release their plans of all future sales so that you the consumer can hold off on purchasing that new Solid State Hard Drive!
I don't think it's realistically feasible to expect any seller to do that.
Sure there are exceptions but as a general rule?
Don't think so.:(

Even though i quoted you i wasn't nitpicking your post.:o
Just wanted to point out that the half elf sale is not currently mentioned anywhere but in the current deals in the in-game store.
If i'm not mistaken, you can click into the DDO store to see what's on sale.
And i thought they also sent out emails to that effect too...

Don't believe him Mem, beat him up! :D <--- not goofy smile, this is a J O K E.
Yes they send out emails, but the emails would be extremely late for some EU and Aussie players. They roll into my inbox about noonish, and I am central time zone USA.

I've never gotten a email. Maybe I disabled it without knowing when I signed up.

Zaal, asking for a little notice on a one-day sale isn't akin to asking them to give out their sale plans in advance. Macy's sends me an email early in the week when they're having their multiple-day one-day sales because they know it will generate interest in the sale. Lost revenue will, theoretically, be made up for by increased volume, and when the profit margin is basically 100% (as is the case with a digital item) it's not hard to justify generating additional volume.
As far as the updates go, they send out a weekly update on the DDO store - I think I get it Friday afternoons. The website/forum update is posted on Thursday. I used to get it Thursday nights, but that changed around last summer (I think).

Perhaps it is their form of impulse buys. Much like the line to wait for checkouts at best buy, and most grocery stores. They put the nice things, and sometimes small things that can be useful or just candy there to make you feel a need for it. You don't see any signs that say candy ahead by cash registers around the store.

The weird thing is, its not even on their store page...
The healing sale is listed, but nothing on tomes...

"plan of all future sales" -- no, that would be silly :).
"few hours/one day in advance" -- yes, I think this would be appropriate given the timezone inconvenience.
Btw, I receive emails with some sales/announcements, but certainly not with all of them (which is good, imho). And as already stated, I couldn't find this specific offer in the DDO store. So the announcement system doesn't seem to be consequent. The best way is probably the forum/dev tracker and many players don't visit the forums.

But they also tweet via twitter, and have Facebook postings (I think not a much of a Facebook guy). So there are lots ways that Turbine uses to get the word out for sales. Not just email and the forums.
But I wouldn't mind having a little more notice or extending sales to 2days. But they don't do to bad getting sale information out there for people that want to get the information.

usually the facebook it up too late for some people to do anything with it. to mean it seems a shame that we have to set up a twitter account in order to get current news about a game, when they have a website, forums, and a news section of a launcher. seems to me that one group of people work harder on getting the news out, and despite popular opinion, not everyone is on twitter. go back to relying more on your launcher, forums and website than twitter or facebook.

I think they are still working on adjusting their paradigms to a global audience. Most of their player base is in the US. 1 Day Sales tend to be announced in the morning on the East Coast (makes sense that is where the main office is located). Most of their buying public is at work or school during those hours and anyone who can check the forums has a chance to notice the sale info. That gives them all night to log in a get the store item they want and to spread the word to friends as well. I know I sometimes update the MotD in Guild if someone real nice is available. So what they do works for most of their players.
Where it falls down is for people/players who are significantly off the time frame of the USA. They have been better with giving start and end times on most notices with GMT standards attached instead of just 1 day sale. Whose 1 day? So they are doing better, but I am sure any method that could be presented that will help with getting information to all their customers would be considered.

Due to the lateness of the sale announcement, we've extended the sale into tomorrow. It will now run until Saturday, March 19th at 12 PM EST.
Thanks for the feedback all.

They would have made $150 off me had they announced the PAX points sale even a week before it came out. Oh well, had a blast taking my ladies to Kemah instead :)

they do, for only a small portion. For instance, I got an email about hirelings going on sale, but nothing else! I didnt even know that CC was going on again until I signed on...not even in the announcement browser during game boot. Sad really...I did see it here in the forums thought, so I guess that the idea of checking the forums for deals is better then waiting to see it anywhere else.
I did not know about the half elf sale...man...another one not mentioned.

I agree with you here.
Turbine's communication to the player base is sorely lacking. Though...that is why I make sure and stay "plugged in."
