To Paintrainn, and other people participating in trades:

I was ragequit today on over a small scale trade. I tried doing a trade today for 3 black dragon scales for 300,000 platinum. I was on my toon Leareth. I put the platinum in the trade box, and he put his scales in the trade window. He clicked accept and then I clicked accept.

Because of a bug that has been around for as long as I have been playing, the trade did not go through and the amount in the box displayed as 300 plat. I typed in 300,000 plat again and clicked accept (the only workaround I know).

He seemed to think I was scamming him because he flipped out and sent me very rude tells and ran off. I tried to explain that this was a flaw in the system, and offer to mail the 300k plat if he didn't believe me. I suspect I was squelched.

I appreciate the apprehension about trades. I had someone today screw me out of 2 large scales because I mailed them my larges, logged off, and didn't write down their name. Oh well. Maybe they just forgot. I'm not going to be rude to them over it. But I get how you can be suspicious. I understand if he didn't want to do the trade anymore. But I still think this went too far.

There is a lesson here for anyone doing trades. This bug has been with us as long as I have played. Anyway, check for yourself that this bug exists. Simply repeat the chronology I described above to verify if you are curious. This is not a "buyer beware" as it doesn't hurt anyone, because it does not complete the trade. It is a visual bug. You just have to type the correct amount again and click accept.

This is a game and it is not okay to treat someone like that over such a miniscule trade. I sure don't care about these 3 dragonscales I was buying to help a guildie out. But please be informed before slinging mud at someone you have never met.

300K and 3 tor scales. I can see where they'd be upset. why, just today I ordered $8.06 worth of taco bell, gave the dude a $10 and a dime.... and he gave me 2 cents back. I kicked the old hampster into gear and asked for some fire sauce.

trade drama ftw!

I believe this bug is due to turbine not parsing the commas correctly. If you do not add the comma, and just type in 300000 when you click accept it will add the comma, and will actually be 300,000.

Won't comment on the rest, other than it sucks that people can flip out so easily.

Sucks you ran into one of the Ritalin Crowd, Rock. Hopefully someone will set him straight!

There is indeed a kind hearted human being at the bottom of this.
I feel you do a disservice to the Ritalin crowd however.

You are correct both cpito and rock are kind hearted.....and your also correct your guildy is doing a great disservice to the Ritalin crowd.

I would say your guildy rage quitting speaks volumes....and the fact that Rock is here trying to get corrected is a testament to her honesty ( but this is Rock....honest is a word i would use to describe her). Go straighten out your guildy that is where the problem lies and tell him to quit being a drama queen.

You know Rock, you don't know my guildy - don't be quick to make snap judgements on something that you have no first hand experience in. Anthios had the good grace not to go name slinging.

Edit: My reading of the OP is one of an informative nature, discussing the trade bug and the repercussions that ensued. The correct forum for an apology is a direct one and and not a public discussion. Don't mistake me for being unrepentant for the hasty and ill advised actions of one of my closest real life friends - that's what i have staked in this. In his defence he has not been playing since anywhere near the game launch and does not appreciate the significance of the GRR badge above Leareth's name nor the genuine qualities that particular person possesses that one might grow to realise having read some of her posts in the class/Gland forums .

He doesn't read the forums, send him a private message explaining the situation from a different toon. Either that or report him for gold spamming..

I've never felt compelled to post on the forums or generally pay them very much attention but when a guildy sent me a text message saying "Google Paintrainn :)" I felt obliged to break my silence and check it out.

I think using the word "ragequit" is a tad misrepresentative of me although it does essentially summarise what happened from your perspective. The same guildy who sent me the message was recently scammed on 3 blue dragonscales in an identical fashion to how I thought I was being scammed - hence my reaction. I was mid-quest chain with a group and I dropped to make that trade and then rejoin. When the deal, in my eyes, turned sour I immediately relogged with my other toon to continue the quest chain. I'm sorry you felt I was unduly rude to you. From memory, which is not exactly perfect I admit, I said something along the lines of "You just tried to scam me. The figure jumped from 300,000 to 300 plat" and after you responded I said "no thank you". In light of the trade bug I was unfair so for that again I apologise but you weren't "ragequit" on.

It does grieve me that what happened clearly upset you and drove you to post on the forums regarding the behaviour. To be honest it is quite helpful that a bug has been called to my attention that I was otherwise unaware of. The trade was fair and there are no qualms there. A problem we have on DDO is seriously unrealistic and speculative trade offers. We only need to look on the AH to find "large devil scales for 1.5million plat buyout" to see prime examples of this. So when rational trade offers and requests are made I genuiney feel compelled to help out because it adds value to our community. Despite being in our own segregated guilds we are all part of the same community whether we choose to realise it or not. In my eyes it is especially important to help out guildies and other players with things like ingredients. This is a valuable part of helping to better and improve this game we all love and devote so much of our time to. That is something I encourage and respect in other players.

I'm very proud of our guild. I like to think that we have a good reputation for solid palyers who consistently produce good characters contributing to the quality of DDO play. So it also grieves me to think that others could read this and take away a negative perception of SDM. We are a small collection of committed players who all know each other personally and it is important to every one of us that we maintain and improve our reputation on the server in all respects. As a result I am sensitive to the potential for any ill-will to be bred between the guilds as a result of something that was no more than a misunderstanding. I'm looking forward to seeing you online and rectifying this situation and helping your guildy out with some black dragon scales.

here's tae ye (that's Scots for "cheers") x

Two things here:

1. That bug is effing annoying.

2. 300k for 3 Tor Scales? 0.o didn't realize Ghallanda had doubled the price on those =P

You say you said "no thank you"
OP says you sent "very rude tells"

Who do you think is telling the truth here?
