The Guardian of Shan-To-Kor is actually scary enough to freak you out when he makes his sudden appearance.

I can't believe the big chest filled jello lost to the guardian. Maybe it's because I can't get over his old days as a wannabe fire giant. When he got his makeover he looked 10x more impressive. But, his stats were dropped almost as much. He used to be one of the toughest in fights in the game. Now you can solo him if your packing the right gear.

Definitely voting for squid-boy. And it's not because he's manipulating me too... not... at... all.

Sorry fellas - Guardian of Shan-to-Kor has got this hands down. Nothing worse than seeing piles upon piles of treasure you cant even get a handful of.

While I actually prefer the original 'fire giant' look, I understand the graphics upgrade, but the stat drop was...disappointing for sure. :(

Also very dissapointed that the gelatin cube lost; most unique treasure guardian I've ever seen (minus how much tougher it is). That would have won this round. Ah well. Must cast my vote for a monster that you actually fight...

Must cast my vote for a monster that you actually fight...

Same. The first time I saw the Guardian I literally jumped out of my chair and thought "what a waste of a quest - no way am I gonna beat THIS thing". Somehow I survived the fight (it was just my wimpy Elf Ranger and my hireling, at-level) and that was definitely my proudest moment in DDO up to that point.

Few years ago i should have vote for STK (not for the skin but for the powers he got) but now he's just so weak he deserve to go to Korthos with the Illithid so i vote for the last one who knows his place ^^

The illithid is so wimpy, the closest he comes to confronting you is to taunt you from behind a giant clear plastic sneeze-guard. Calamari in a salad bar does sound scary, but it lacks the pizazz I demand from my bad-guys.

Meanwhile, the giant is so butch, he continues to brandish his club after he dies.

Giant wins this one.

Come on. The guy is scary enough but you kill him and his club just hovers around in the air waiting for someone to swing it at you. Now that is magic.

I say the Guardian wins. He's unique in DDO - very scary looking. Hate to meet a group of those guardians in a dark sewer :P

Mindflayers ftw. Too bad the jelly lost tho.

Normally I would vote for the Mind Flayer... but this particular Mind Flayer makes me run through nigh endless hordes of boring enemies in a ridiculously huge area for a stupid long time...

So I vote for the lame duck, the Guardian, who used to actually force players to think about tactics before fighting him. Now he's just a pushover...sigh. He won't go far in this contest though, for sure. He needs a new toughness makeover.

the first time i saw the guardian i was scared i thought i would never win yet i did it was a miracle a lvl 3 wizard elf could beat him with a lvl 3 hire. yet when i saw my first mindflayer i thought pshhh as a 16 wiz ill own this guy and then i was dead next thing i knew it. i have to give this to mindflayer because they are thougher than they look and the guardian is weaker than he looks.

One of my fondest memories in DDO was my first battle with the STK Guardian (v1.0). As the rogue, it was my job to spawn the big guy while everyone else huddled in the corner and the wizard pummeled him with magic missles. Until he ran out of mana, anyway. I decided to help out (again, FIRST battle), and flung my Adamantine Throwing Dagger at the back of his skull with all the precision of my craft. Critical Hit plus Sneak Attack for about half his hit points. I was so proud. Until he turned around and started chasing me with that Redwood he calls a club. So here I am, tumbling around the room like I'm on fire while the tanks are trying in vain to pull the agro off of me. They finally managed to take him down, and I crawled away having learned a valuable lesson; don't sneak attack anything you can't kill.

Since his nerf update, that same dagger to the skull would probably leave the rest of the party with a lot of time on their hands, but it's still better than standing around while a dragon does all the work for you.

I'm definitely more in favor of a monster that I actually get to FIGHT!

The original stk guardian, and the chain as it was, with rogue much more integral, good caster, tactical play required etc is one of the reasons I stayed here. Ooh, an mmo with a brain. Since then the guardian has been made to look like he felt when he was a fire giant lookalike, but it's such a shame that he hits like a wet fish. Without early challenges and failures nobody learns, as evidenced by the increasing dependency on private channels over pugs at high level. Still, for my memories of how he was, he wins.

Considering how much brain they eat, illithids are depressingly devoid of personality. Like those skinny people that eat fat food. No idea how they do it. Maybe they should stick to yogurt. I like to eat squid too, so I'd feel a hypocrite if I supported them.

All respect lost for the Guardian of Shan-To-Kor. Back in the day, if you could solo the entire chain people would be "meh..." but if you could solo him they'd be all like "Whoa!" Now he makes kobolds look tough in comparison...

Kobolds are as high as my knee cap, takes 1 to 2 hits (on normal)
The guardian is like 17 feet high, takes 10 hits or so

Bring back the juggernaut of STK!!!! Your brains will thank you.:D

I, too, am one who expresses their sorrow at seeing the Treasure Guardian's lose. There is just so much about the loss that confounds me. I mean, here is a staple D&D monster, elevated to boss status; not only do you go wide-eyed at seeing the Box o' Deadly Jell-o sliding along, doing its thing, there are additional hazards to spice up the fight. And you see that treasure chest in it, and you know you're just licking your lips, going, "But if I kill it, there's a chest... I can see it right there."

And then it loses to an over-glorified wanna-be golem. I mean, yeah, there's some shock value to seeing it - there's a huge, looming rocky being that comes charging at you. I never had the honor of fighting his previous version, so I do not have the same awe and respect for what he once was, only contempt for what he is now.

As far as this match up, well, my money is on the illithid. Ol' Squidface might not be someone you interact with, but he's a crafty little brat. He bends an army of sahuagin to his will, who in turn brainwash villagers to do his bidding, and even takes control of a freakin' dragon. True, this is done with a little help from a certain artifact, but still, he managed to do it. Given time, he would have been able to rule Korthos, get a proper army going, and be a major plot for the people of Stormreach - if it wasn't for "those meddling adventurers. And their Summoned Dog, too!"

All the guardian does is stand there, hoping an adventurer comes by while growing patches of moss and spider webs. Lazy bum.

I've got to give my vote for someone who you actually fight, yeah mindflayers are cool, but I like to kill my enemies, not let some ice dragon do it for me

if it weren't for the mindflayer we wouldn't have "oh no! the saughin found me!"

and you all voting against that? for shame.

Some bad seeding here. We're getting a lot of

1 v 1

and

8 v 8 matchups here.

Look at the real march madness. They take the higher seeds and pair them against the lower seeds to get the rif raff out of the way very quickly. Regardless of who wins here we can be fairly confident they won't make it to the final four. This matchup is like the Richmond vs. Morehead state game today. No one even cares who wins that game.

Yet somehow Horoth is gone already..... we're left with candidates like.... Captain Tew, and a mind flayer that we wouldn't even know had a name until you put it into this contest. What's even worse is we've got this "guardian" that we'll (likely) see again next round that isn't even important enough to have a name.

Guardian.

Even tho today he is a complete wimp since Turbines decided that he should be "MOAR EASY!" .. Blah.

We can vote on how he used to be if we want. Well i say we can anyways.

So yea.. My vote is for the guardian.

The prepatch guardian anyways.

The one that actually stood a chance at guarding stuff. The one that kicked major ass. The real guardian us grizzled veterans remember.

Axer remember STK. Axer still hate guardian.

Not that new sissy. Never him.

Prepatcha guardian all the way.
