I live in the USA, but I am actually English. I am currently visiting the UK and the state of the internet over here is horrifying. Truely horrifying.

I am staying with my parents and they have the "unlimited" package provided by the worlds oldest telecommunication company.

What a rip-off...I doubt it would be legal over in the States.

Firstly: They advertise the line as 20MB...but in the small print it says "up to 20MB subject to line restrictions" and the sad reality is that the best I have seen on this line is about 3.5MB.

Secondly: Fair Use Policy.... say what?!.....a lesson in the art of how to make the word "unlimited" actually mean "limited". Needless to say, being used to my truely unlimited American connection I blew through that (un)limit in about 2 weeks.

Thirdly: Automatic p2p throttling for everybody all day everyday.

Fourthly: Heavy throttling of all "heavy users" during peak times (ie ALL evening).

Finally: The real reason that brought this rant on was my fury this evening at discovering that while trying to download an update for Steam I was downloading at the pc-in-danger-of-being-thrown-out-the-window speed of 12.5 k/sec.....no that is not a typo.....12.5 k/sec.

If they bring usage limits and heavy throttling to the USA its time to build an underground bunker and stock up on bottled water cause the apocalypse she be a-coming.

It is here, just not enforced in some markets. I myself have been hit with it.
