After talking with him about a totally different topic, this GM cracked me up with the following line at the end of the conversation:
(Admin): <Player:IIDString:0x02130000003ABF7A:+Etymologist+>+Etymologist+<\Player> tells you, 'If you'll excuse me, I have to go investigate complaints of people calling each other noobs, and read chat logs thoroughly. '
Wish the server had more GMs like this - ones that solve your problem, then leave you cracking up with laughter.

Etymologist has helped me a few times, most recently about a bugged Hireling *reported it and posted in the Hireling forum*
Good guy definitely

I have also had good experiences with this one and one other, i think having a good attitude with them has as much to do with the experience as anything though. I can't count the times someone has complained about poor gm help but they were themselves rude to the gm.

Before Scroll were auto-assigned, we had a scroll that dropped and got stuck in a piece of geometry.
Long story short, we didn't get the scroll. But the best part of the event was the GM telling me that they *could* spawn the scroll... but only in a 100 Stack.
Cracked me up. I have no idea why 100 stack is the minimum, but just hearing a little bit of "insider knowledge" like that was enough to cheer me up.
Definitely, there are some fun GMs out there.

Agreed. The positive experience that I had with a GM once was with +Etymologist+
He couldn't resolve my issue, but I wasn't mad about it. It was weird.

if you're nice to them they are nice to you!
...and occasionally they get bored enough to make jokes...win-win all around :D

The difference is that most GMs tell you that they cant resolve your issue, recommend that you submit a bug report, and then close the ticket.... often without any other words. While you're typing your response as an inquiry as to why they can't resolve it, the ticket is closed and your question goes unanswered.
This leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
+Etymologist+ is much more agreeable and forthcoming. Even if he can't help you, you understand why and have all of your questions answered.
This makes a HUGE difference.
I mean, I know that they're busy and all, but customer service is just that. If there's nothing they can do about the situation, at least they can be thorough and not have you log off in anger.

It's like he's using Psychology! And Voodoo. Definitely Voodoo.

The sad part is that he will probably get fired for being less efficient than the other GMs.

I haven't made it here in awhile since we've been so darn busy, but this thread found its way into my line of sight, and what a welcome end to my week!
It's like he's using Psychology! And Voodoo. Definitely Voodoo.
Yes, we've noticed his tendencies towards Voodoo. We think it has something to do with the all the little heads at his desk, although he's always told us they were just dolls...

I most definitely will not fire him... he's got too many "doll" heads at his desk. It's a little creepy.

Some GM's been very nice.
Was in GoP once and the floor did not break in the beholder fight, yet he teleported to the next level. Could not go and fight him, called a GM. 2 minutes later, Gm told me they would teleport me immedietly. Unfortunately, they teleported me when I had about 10 hp left, and they teleported me right in front of the beholder and it killed me instantly :). However, after I told them that they should not have teleported me with 10hp and right in front of the beholder, they waited for me to get back in the quest, heal up, and then promptly teleported me to the corner where I had a fighting chance :)

Understand that the high amount of jerkwad DMs comes from the fact that they have to open every single link posted in general chat, if Turbine has the same policy as most other MMO companies.
All of them. Lemonparty? Have to open it. Tub girl? Have to open it. 2 Girls 1 Cup? Have to open it.
Etymologist is either new, or made of tougher stuff than most.

I agree that there are the exceptional few out there that make this a better place to be. Far above and beyond their duties. Most of the pre-F2P sub-only players can remember back to a time when all complaints and issues were resolved with a tell from a +NAME+ asking if it was fixed, double checking on status, or merely explaining there was nothing that could be done. The latter of course being the most frustrating, yet still a personal resolution experience. Post F2P addition resulted in a lovely exclamation point telling you your ticket was updated. You go to look, no real info provided other than the classic, "please make a bug report" and the most insulting, ticket closed. On a side note, why does this exclamation point have the same Icon as Guild Renown announcements?
But I digress, I've sent tells to the +NAME+ that closed my ticket asking for further information, especially when bug reporting was completely broken via in-game, my account, and forums. All dead links. I received nothing. Now just to put it out there,
Thank you to all of you GM's, Dev's, and staff that make this one of the best games available to the public MMO market.
To the rest of you, please find new employment and/or volunteer status elsewhere so we can get more of the previous working here.

+Etymologist+ helped me and a friend as well, in the evergreen GoP buggy floors...
He inquired about our issue, then promptly teleported us down to the Doomsphere.
Also, +1 for this GM: just wish there were more voodoo GMs!

The one thing that was funny was that during the prime time that the event was out, I was having fun using the swashbuckler shield in PvP. Unfortunately, some people got stuck(Although whether or not it was me, I had no idea, all I know was that they were stuck from the shield effect), and after I gave up trying to find a way to break it(Rez, dispel magic, break enchantment(song)), all of a sudden I get a tell out of the blue from him telling me not to use it.
I thought it was kinda funny I got that tell for some reason. I wonder how he knew? :D Too bad I couldn't reply back though, guess it was a automated message.

Ooooo! How do I get to talk with a GM? Who or what do I have to spam?

Does "platz plx!!1" works? :D

Well, it appears those aren't the droids you're looking for.

QFT.
It's that extra little step a few of our GM's take that really DO make the difference. Even if they can't fix the issue, when that extra step is taken, you/we feel better about it. Even if that extra step is a perception, true or false, it makes a difference.

I actually dealt with this guy last night.
One of the items on our ship disappeared. When you revealed the hookpoint it told you it was there, but it wasn't showing up. This has happened three times in the past week so just for fun I opened a ticket to see if they could respawn instead of our in-house solution "buy something else, wasting the time left, then immidately rebuy what you had there before".
When he came on he told me that he couldn't help because there aren't allowed to fix airships or touch them in any way. I made some snide remark, and rather than scold me or close the ticket, he appologized. He suggested that maybe if we left the ship for 5 minutes a fresh instance might respawn it. He asked what we had done to fix it in the past, and I told him. He then asked me to bug report it and promissed if I did he would send a note to 404 personally about it.
Now I'm not pleased that Turbine doesn't give the GMs the tools to do their jobs, but he did all he could and then a step more, which is all you can expect from CS or tech support.
