Just a random curiosity, the AH sets max value at 2.1 Million Plat and the character's cap is a little over 4 million. Why these values and not say 4 mil on AH and 10 million on players?

Why 2.1 not 2 milllion

Why 4.4 not 4 or 5 million.

Just curious.

AH: Largest possible value for a signed 32 bit integer.
Character: Largest possible value for an UNSIGNED 32 bit integer.

It's a computer memory representation thing.

From DDO wiki

For VIP and Premium players, it is limited to about 4.3 million pp (exactly 4,294,967 pp 295 cp, the limit of a 32-bit unsigned integer in cp).

2 to the 32nd power -1 CP converted to PP > GP > SP > CP. Its like the Y2K of DDO currency. :p

And seeing as everything is already way overpriced on the AH, I would not want that cap raised any day...

I've always suspected that it actually had nothing to do with this, and the devs picked this number just to **** with us. :D

Real question is why AH uses signed 32 bit int... Anyone plan on paying to have people take your stuff (aka selling for negative value)?

Maybe the program only does addition, and to subtract money they just "add" the amount using 2's complement numbers? Been a while since I was in school but think this works.

The 2m buyout, 2.1m bid maximums are silly and have nothing to do with 32 bit integers (otherwise they'd be something like 2.148m PP), as they increase inflation - they push trades of more valuable items (like, say, a Greenblade scroll that might trade at ~3-3.5m PP) off the AH and into the forums, where no platinum is destroyed in the trade.

The Devs looked at upping the plat cap ages ago but decided against it as it would require significant coding changes.
