View Full Version : Barrier to bringing back players

Having along with 9 other friends just found out that all our characters have been deleted as we missed the migration from europe by 4 days was a bitter pill. I have tried to get us all back online but its a tough sell to ask people to no doubt pay to re level the 6 odd characters we each had.

How many people from the past 5 years will log in to find that all has been deleted?

How hard would it to have at least held the info?

We had all 'paid to play' since the beginning and had not logged in pending new content, 5/6 years of pay to play lost and a very hand lesson to be learned.

Another barrier to play DDO.......... how much time and money will it now take to go grind just to see new high end content.

To the mighty powers that be.... Is all lost?

Sorry...can't sympathize. I saw multiple warnings of the deadline to transfer toons. They can't keep things open indefinitely. At some point, there has to be an end.

You did see the 8 different notices about "LAST DEADLINE TO OPT IN" on the forums right? Probably was on your launcher, right? Maybe even an email from Turbine a few times about this up coming opt in?

How many noticed did we get when the servers were being merged again? Every other day or something like that, right?

If these friends enjoy the friendship, it shouldn't be a hard sell - just enjoying time together should be the profit.

If it's all about the work/cost involved in leveling together, then it's not really a 'friendship', eh?

Other than that, pretty much what the others have said. Lot of official warnings were out, and the forums were full of threads about the transfer stuff.

To paraphrase something sent to me recently for unrelated reasons: When we lose something we had, we are not being punished. We are simply being given the opportunity to recieve something better.

Game on, and welcome to the neighborhood.

Getting to level 17 to enjoy the high level content should take you about a week-month, which works out at about $10 a pop for a months VIP each .

How is "there has to be an end sometime" considered "making stuff up"? If you can't be bothered to take action on YOUR account before the deadline, why the heck should they have to accommodate your lazy butt?? When servers are being merged and/or shut down, there has to be an end point. At some point they NO LONGER EXIST.

Edit: fix a typo

Because they made a deal with a different company. Turbine didn't own the other database.

i left the EU servers before they closed down. i started again here and its been a lot of fun. since then Turbine moved the EU characters over, but to a server I don't play on. i've spent no more than 10 mins on each of my old characters since then.

so, give it another go, you'll still have lots of fun and if you sub there is new content at lower levels for you to explore too.

A guildie of mine was away from DDO for over a year, came back, and found out a week too late that him and his wife could have migrated their characters over if they'd come back to the game just a little sooner.

So yeah feel free to blame people who had no way of knowing.

To the OP: It's bad to have to start from scratch all over again, but it's also a bit of a different game now. If you're on Ghallanda look me up and I'll help as I can to get you settled. Not rich or anything but will do what I can.

If you saw it, then why didn't you tell me? How selfish. Anyway, congrats on the spot.

No, I have a life and don't check my launcher every other day. Your theory pans out unless of course you happen to have taken an extended break from the game.

Anyways, you both have missed the point. The op is talking about a barrier to old players returning. There was no comment on what you did or didn't see. I take it you didn't do very well at interpretation at school, or maybe you haven't got that far yet.

What kind of business deletes its client base as they don't respond within a few months? Good luck and see you on the other side.

Loved the comment regarding "live with the consequences" - we'll try and pull through this difficult time with your support, although I'm not sure life will ever be the same again....

to be honest man i jumped the euro boat ages ago - before the ship sailed. I was working under the principle that there would be no ship.

I now have my old chars but ive been playing my new ones for so long now that i realy didnt have much desire to go back and pick up my old ones.

My advice is this:
Go free to play - this game is free, if you havent played in a long time there is a heck of a lot of new stuff to check out thats free.

start up as a static group, stay free to play for a while see if you like it - if you do then you can start paying or buying content as you see fit. Turbine was very genrous to transfer the exisitng accounts that opted in - please bear in mind that turbine and codemasters are different companies.

Its a lot more fun to start fresh than to pick up old characters that you have lost touch with - not to mention how much the game has changed, we have lots of prestiges now, more feats and more spells, your old characters are probably gimps in todays DDO any ways.

Now play the game that turbine are virtualy giving away and quit whining because your giving us other eubies a bad rep

Stop worrying about your rep and concentrate on your punctuation as that's giving us "eubies" a bad rep. Otherwise, very good.

it sucks you lost out on the opportunity to port your CM characters, but that is kind of the rub. It was on CM's database. They (CM) would set the end date.

I wonder if this data still exists even if Turbine does not currently have any legal rights to access it?

If so a case might be made for them to purchase the data outright. I can not imagine it would have any value for CM beyond what they could get from Turbine for it.

They could certainly attempt it, but depending on how much CM expected to get for it, Turbine would have to expect a very large ROI to even try.

and here is the reason why they would not do it anytime soon. No value in it right after the opt in perioud. The customers that really wanted in, are here, the rest probably were inactive and at present no value to Turbine. However, in the future the value CM has in mind will decrease, and Turbine may become more willing to negotiate at that point in time. Bottom line, the customers that really wanted in to DDO are here, with very minor exceptions, but with how much notice was given it is on the customer for not following through, not Turbine.
