So this is all i hear. It's max DPS this and max DPS that. It's in all the builds, calculated to the N nth integer. It figures in talk about weapons and aggro and whose the best.....but hang on just a second is it all that important or even relevant in the wider scheme of things.
I'll be a bit more specific. Ive been toying with the idea of grabbing the Epic Claw Set. Ok just in DPS terms the +4 sounds like a bargain. Can't argue with that. Clearly makes the toon better in that sense. My current items in those two slots don't add anything to my DPS with weapons.
So thats it then game over...Mmmm well no because my other items increase my DR by 10, do 2d6 piercing damage every time i get hit , curse enemies, give me 30 point heals and proc inflict wounds on mobs? So where does that leave me . No mathmatecian has taken on the task of working out how a DPS item stacks up against a defensive item. (no chance my annorak aint even going their). Am i actually of more overall use to the party to keep the original items??
I did toy with a few figures (nothing to geeky i'll have you know) and came to the general conclusion that the overall difference in replacing my Epic Bramble Casters and Epic DC bracers with the Epic Claw set probably didnt justify the time and effort and more importantly the damage i was doing in total wouldnt change much
For that matter would it then be plausible to calculate the damage potential of your guards and claim it as DPS
Ive never really seen any in depth post's about defensive items and their damage dealing/damage reducing potential Vs their pure DPS alternatives. I wonder where we might get to?
So consider your tank walking into Tod weilding nothing but a sick sense of humour. A few well chosen insults about parentage and donkeys gets Horoth flying over thinking this guys a fruit cake and i'm gonna have me a slice, only to find his component atoms being drastically re-arranged as a whole stream of guards blast him..?
Ok bit extreme but i wonder if something like that would be effective. Like a guard focussed build. Ive seen Tukaw in PvP and his build works on those lines roughly..
What do you think ?
