View Full Version : Planning my Pally life

My TR's next life will be her pally life and I'm in need of some advice. My current idea is a thf helf koc, or go twf to use my min2 khopesh. One route will be toughness heavy with either fvs or barb dil. The other will be spread thin and feat starved, but will have very nice gear ready to go.

I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'll be a 36 point build with 2 ftr and a barb pl feats. I have all races and all packs, so farming gear this life is not an issue.

So I short, I would like a sample or full build with gear options/needs if you all would be so kind.

Thanks in advance! :)

Tbh, I'd never thought about rolling a Helf Pally, so I'd also be interested in seeing what other people come up with.

Do Helves get bonuses using falchions like Elves do?

No they don't, although if you're HElf FvS you can use scimitar without taking a feat, just like elves.

About HElf paladins, my choice would be 18/2 paladin/monk with TWF Khopeshes and rogue dilettante feat for Sneak Attack :)

If the plan is to just TR again immediately, then this is what I was going to suggest as well. If the plan is to stay as a Pally for a while, the capstone is awesome.
What gear he already has could play a part in making any decisions as well.
I should mention though, that Pallys are already AP starved, and adding things like Bardic Dillies doesn't help at all. Fortunately the Dillies don't cost too much in the grand scheme of things.

Thinking about staying pally for maybe a month after cap, just to run a few raids, epics, etc as a pally. Life after this will be a helves angel, so will be at cap, double checking for gear and such.

Thinking about 18/2, especially since I love multiclassing. My other idea is solar phoenix variant, but I lack a lot of gear for it and don't wanna redo a bunch of greensteel for one life.

IMO pali's capstone isn't worth much for a TR. Of course extra dmg is always extra dmg but monk lvls are much more useful here. Evasion, extra saves, AC bonus and 2 really handy combat feats make this build more solo capable and fun after all :) That's just my opinion of course.

Solar phoenix variants are the most fun builds for me. Lvling toons like these is a cake, you can solo almost every quest in the game. Check my ranger phoenix variant if you consider something else after this pali life :)

Things to remember for a Pally build:
You are a crit driven class. So you always want to make sure you have Exalted Smite at as high a tier as you can afford, AP wise.
Your blue bar is practically non-existent. I hang on to lowbie mana pots that I've collected from the Harbor/Market on all my toons and pass them to my Pally, and use these to power DivSac, which you should be spamming every three seconds like clockwork.
Your teeny tiny mana bar is also the reason that Extend is very important on a Pally, if you can fit it in, which you can on a monk splash. Most of your buffs are short term - the good ones anyway - and saving sp on keeping them extended means you have more SP for DivSac.

8eidt:
I should note that while I could go on and on for days about DivSac and how you should spam it.... you'll notice I only took tier 1 on this. The extra crit power it provides is much more important than another 2d6 light every 3 seconds. Sure, it adds a few more d6's every few seconds if you go higher, but it doesn't add any more crit power for going higher. Tier 1 is enough.

Going from boring Fighter x2 -> to Barbarian -> to Paladin.... is going to be an eye opener on clicky usage. Paladins are MUCH more involved to play.
No auto-attack and walk away for you anymore. Now you'll start to have FUN playing him! :D

As I'm sure you have Madstone Boots - If you decide not to take Extand and go with something else:
Buff yourself, put them on, wait for it to proc, and take them back off.
When Madstone Rage wears off, rebuff, and then repeat.

You have to micromanage a Pally to bring out the best in him. But once you get the hang of that micromanagement you'll start to LOVE him.

Looks like fun to me.

I've been playing self-sufficient melees actually. First life was a Monster Build that I focused on AC a bit, then ran a Blitz build next. Lots of Micromanaging during fights (Haste boosts, Kensei boosts, Titan's Grip, Rage, Frenzy) and while soloing (which I do a LOT) with my vast collection of clickies.

This Barb Life is an 18/2 with Rogue for UMD/Evasion and will sit at 20 for a bit (til I get some others capped and get a couple epic pieces done) then I'll look harder into this one. TY for the time though. See you on Friday :)
