this may be a stupid question. but, can you be a ranger tempest, and at the same time be an elven AA? Possible or not if you had all the feats and prereqs?

No. The Elven Arcane Archer enhancements lock out all other Ranger PrE's. Otherwise... Elven AA + Deepwood sniper would be a sweet combo (Once deepwood stops sucking, anyway)

Yeah I figured as much. But now that that is out of the question it could stack with a fighter PrE like kensei correct? Just looking for ways to make my AA better at melee. I already decided to splash 6 lvls of fighter in my TR, but that would only give me kensei 1, so it wouldn't be all that great. Basically seeing if anyone else tried this or will I just be gimping my ranger?

Yes, you can have Kensai and AA.
AAs are fine with melee, the damage is only about 10% behind a tempest.

Yeah I know AA melee is fine. My original ranger was a pure AA. Now I'm just trying to be more creative with his tr this time around. Thank you for all your input everyone.

Have a look at Helves Angel (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=289591); there are other Kensai II AA builds out there, but this one's probably the best.
