View Full Version : It isn't a Trap... it's a Joke

Ah pfff... just had another frustrating quest with my rogue machanic... so if I may:

/rant on

Ok so we got this really cool pre with a focus on trapmaking skills which can be used effectively with sneaking and made repeaters a usefull option... but it's all a big fat lazy hoax.

Repeaters dont work... out of 3 shots fired 0-2 normally hit... all 3 if you are really lucky. If you get half the DPS you could be doing you are lucky. And i dont mean the "MISS" poping out of the mobs head... they just dissapear.

Sneaking works great in some parts and is bugged in many more areas.. you enter a room through a door, you stay in sneak mode. You leave the same room using the same door and whoops you leave sneak mode and those 3 ogres finally get to test their new clubs on your head... great times

And trap making...

The damage is low... np problem there, i'll just make many traps! Just they take ages to plant and cost a great amout of grind plus/or plat for the parts and essences. 2 things no other class has to do to use its basic skills.

DC are way to low... I mean the web lasts for like 5 secs? Ok np its really nice to just slow down mobs every now and then just a little. But it doesnt. There is no way on earth you can do epics or anything above level 10 probably using traps to any effect.

And the actually want to sell the parts in the shop??? A +1 shop sword has ten times the worth of those trap parts!

/rant off

Really what i dont understand is that everything is right there:

-If repeaters actually do hit all 3 shots the do acceptable DPS.

-Sneak mechanics work great in lots of situation, but then suddenly bug out in quests like Blockade Buster, which actually are build to have fun with a stealth group.

-Play around with Damage and DC's of the traps. its all right there JUST DO IT! Why not have a rogue putting out web traps with a DC of like 40? The short duration wont make wizards obsolete but give the rogue a great amount of depth.

Pre's like the radient server were balanced very fast and in a good way imho. Do the same for rogue. I can understand that the repeater bug can be hard to deal with but the traps could be fixed by just changing a few numbers. This Pre has so much potential to make gameplay more fun and it just was dumped.

P.S. They only Trap that is spot on is the Noisemaker. Its cheap and it works exactly as it should... maby could use just a little more range.

+1 to everything you said

The rogue mechanic doesn't feel well enough balanced or tested it works great for a short while.. after that it is more likely to get you killed than actually kill anything.

I do like the web trap as well, if people are patient enough for you to use it.

I think there needs to be more traps with more effects in this game rather than just damage - both for the mobs and for the players.

Neg rep for this? Seriously, get a life and stop hiding behind an anon internet profile.

Once they've finished releasing PrEs for all the classes, I really hope they go back and polish the Acrobat and Mechanic, those 2 have a lot of potential, but are currently flawed and lacking.

That disjunction trap in IQ and the air traps in Siegebreaker during the end puzzle. <3

Still remember not being able to find the disjunction one when it came out and being confused why a bunch of my gear was doing nothing. XD

They really could stand to expand on it as a whole, for mobs and players. Anything to add variety. Seeing the same blade/fire/acid/force/spikes/spiny blades of death for 20 lvls gets a bit old.

And the Disco Ball traps in Monastery! Love the tension of being stuck dancing while that huge scorpion scuttles closer and closer, desperately hoping I make my save and can run away before he gets to me.

Ala Rambo, trapmaking should be able to be applied to projectiles like bolts for the mechanic builds. I also like mechanic to be able to create 100% returning +1 bolts, or something similar to what arcane archers can do.

That would be pretty great (and would get me to make a mechanic and stick with it likely). Also something that involves tinkering with bolts, like "add trap effect to bolts to craft bolts of X by combining Y traps + Z bolts" to create some neat effects (bolts of slap web on your enemies far away, *drool*, or perhaps some unique effects).

A repeater shooting web-bolts...

I'd roll up a mechanic.

I'd name him SpiderPig

The greased, spiked pit in Necro3 I think it is, one of my all time favorites.

And yes, Mechanics need love. I've not played one due to the fact of how many of their mechanics are broken or so far subpar (pun intended).

That is a great idea! +1

I'd like to see them fix the bugs with repeaters and revamp traps first, though.

Oh yeah, definitely. Revamp + expand traps, fix ranged in general, add more easily obtainable ammo (or put in a way to replicate ones you have or convert random drops of 20 into repeating versions), improve the rogue robotic/golem buddies (the ones everyone forgets about), put in grappling hooks, masks, and spandex cosmetic outfits in the store. Also allow me to put a quarterstaff in as ammo on a super large crossbow wielded by half orcs! Ok maybe no on the last few ;) *dreams of bolts of stunning+10 that work off of Int or something similar*

I keep collecting repeaters of all sorts because I feel bad tossing away a weapon with mods that would be a rare/great combo on a melee weapon, but I'm still waiting for some improvements to the entire ranged mechanic before I sink time into a character (and buy a new slot) that would spend half it's playtime dead or running in circles.
