View Full Version : Rogue Acrobat: Twitch or Auto Attack?
It seems that the half orc's Great Axe twicth is a lot faster than the staff even with the 10% haste boost from Acrobat 1 so I'm wondering which actually ends up doing more damage on a rogue acrobat, twitchin or auto attacking?

It will depend on your basic damage, but twitching is probably better in most cases, because it gives a higher number of swings per minute, and each of these swings has SA, while glancing blows don't.

best of both worlds: jump twitch!

When it was discovered you could slow twitch and keep glancing blows I compared the two styles vs the training dummy. Everytime as an acrobat II rogue using a quarterstaff the regular auto attack drops the dummy faster then any form of twitching. This is using a quarterstaff which also has a different attack animation than an axe or sword.
If you are comparing a greataxe vs a staff in the hands of an acrobat, the staff should when out when getting sneak attacks if you are an acrobat II. +20% alacrity and dex bonus added to sneak attack is significant dps increase.

Somebody will have to clear this up for me, but I thought "twitching" was "fixed"? The twitching I am thinking of is the kind that a barbarian would do to get extra attacks, but suffer a loss in accuracy. IIRC, a barb would strafe to the left or right after making two attacks which would reset his attack animation. By resetting it, his attack bonus goes back to zero, but the way the animation works is that more attacks are provided.
So I'm thinking either the twitch bug was never fixed, or the name of twitching has been given to something else entirely.

What was changed about twitching was the glancing blows part (which makes twitching less advantageous). Twitching itself still exists, and is still useful for a number of things (particularly autocrit).

No one has posted numbers yet for quarterstaff twitch. We do have numbers for greataxe twitch and quarterstaff auto-attack, but without knowing more specifics to your situation (which greataxe you're using, which quarterstaff, Dex mod, Str mod, other damage bonuses, level of haste boost, sneak attack damage, etc.), it doesn't make sense to do any comparison.

Vanshilar (see here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=275144)) gave the same twitch speed for greataxe and quarterstaff: 99.49 * (100% + 1.2763 * sum of each boost%) swings per minute, against 86.50 * (100% + 1.0327 * sum of each boost%) for auto attack. Dunno if he tested both or made an assumption though.

Ah don't bother twitching with quarterstaff. Turns out quarterstaff twitch animation is pretty slow. Unfortunately it seems like each two-handed weapon has their own twitch attack animation speeds so they will need to be tested individually, hence I haven't posted numbers for the different weapons yet.
I see, I saw your post in another thread a few minutes ago Vanshilar, it pretty much sums it up:
"1. Keep in mind that the only THF valid weapon speeds are for greataxe (considered "fast THF") and greatsword (considered "slow THF"). Unfortunately it seems like other THF weapons do have their own speeds which varies slightly for this. THF twitch is an even worse offender; for example, quarterstaff attack speeds match greataxe attack speeds in regular standing attacks but are far slower when twitching. Far as I know, all TWF weapons have the same weapon speed, or at least dwarven axe and khopesh do anyway."
Sucks, I was expecting twitching to be the same on both but QS just looked so slow compared to Axes and Mauls even with the extra 10% attack speed that even just asking here was wishful thinking, too bad since I wanted to be able to move from TWF(with all the feats) to THF(with none of the feats) by just switching enhancements, liked the idea of almost having full benefits of both styles.
