This is something im wondering when i just downloaded the game.

The only thing that i like from the premiun options is the halforc race, but i dont know what else the premium account offers, so thats why i ask.

What would be better for me? get the premium account or just buy the halforc race?

In DDO you get premium account (with couple of perks) first time when u pay.
I guess you meaned VIP account, which requires monthly fee.
If the only thing in VIP you're interested with, its better IMO to buy it from the store.

Uh... the premium account is given to you when you purchase any amount of points.

Do you mean getting the vip account with the monthly fee?

Whenever you spend any money (i.e. buy Turbine Points instead of just sticking wtih the free ones that you get), you become permanently Premium. The monthly subscription is VIP, not Premium.

I only mention this because all of Turbine's advertisments that mention Premium or VIP will get confusing if you have the wrong terminology.

VIP gets you
1) unlimited access to every quest in the game
2) ability to open quests on Elite immediately instead of Normal, then Hard, then Elite. This is nice if you want to go run low level quests on your high level character in order to grind out favor.
3) wonderful Warforged, heavenly Half Orcs, deadly Drow and helpless Half Elves
4) shared bank space to easily transfer loot between your characters

Premium gets you 1, 3 and 4, but only if you buy then individually.

I reccomend just wandering around as a free-to-play player until you get a character up to level 4 or 5 since you really don't actually need paid quests before that level and you can decide how you want to proceed after that.

I went premium and they only thing that I actually miss is the ability to open quests on Elite on my first time through, but I can pester guild members into opening those quests for me, too, so that's just an annoyance and not a serious issue.

If you're going to stay in the game for a long time and and you buy your turbine points on sale and buy your adventure packs and races when they go on sale, then you'll spend much less money on Premium than you would on VIP. If you're going to buy every adventure pack and every race and shared bank space and then quit or get banned for inappropriate behavior after 3 months, then Premium was probably not the best choice. :)

Yes, sorry, i meant vip, im an idiot.

So with the vip you get the adventure packs free...

That COULD be interesting, but in classes and races the only thing im interested is in barbarian half orc.

This thread made me curious about the reverse.

If you go VIP and then cancel your subscription at a later date for whatever reason, what do you lose?

I'm pretty sure you lose the ability to access all the quests. And Elite access first-time-through would be gone.

But are alts you've made like drow or half-orc also restricted until you pay for them again?

Just FYI, I was subscription way back when, dropped the game for a year or so, found it again for F2P and was Premium right off the bat for coming back. Have been Premium since, just buying TP as I need.

VIP is only worth it if you don't plan to play fopr more than a few months after that your just wasting money if you patient enough with sales you can get everything for about $50~80 (except the start at elite thing..but knowing turbine it will be purchasable soon) so if you plan on sticking around for 6+ Months its a waste of money.

Yep. You lose access to anything that required payment to use. (rent)

Races, packs, character slots, ect ect ect.

so if i only want the half orc race, i should only purchase it?

You already can purchase Open-On-Elite from the DDO store, but that is on a per-quest basis, so you'll have to buy an Open-On-Elite trinket at least dozens of times per character if you want to do this solo.

I still think that badgering a guildie into favor running with you is the better option. :)

Sounds like it, yes.

Patience will get you a better deal, catching them on a 20% or 50% sale.

There was a good comparison chart somewhere for the benefits between Prem & VIP, but for *just* Horcs, just buy em.

Ah good, i just want to make a good half orc character. I dont really care for the rest.

So what would be better? buy it now or wait it to be on sale?

Only you can answer that one. When d'ya want to get rolling on the char?
Gotta roll it now, buy it now. Having fun in the meantime? Wait for a sale.

In any case, welcome to the Tusked side of the force. :)

You could probably wait for the sale and in the meantime unlock a lot of things and earn a lot of free Turbine Points (for sales only) by playing 1 character. If you get 400 favor and unlock drow, playing a drow the rest of the time could be rewarding until you get your half-orc.

A few milestones that would make sense while you wait and learn the game so your half-orc is better when you buy him:

400 Total Favor (Drow Unlock)
1000 Total Favor (Free Veteran Status Unlocked)
If you get that far with a Drow, you'll have plenty of TP (if you didn't waste it on non-permenant purchases like pots, shrines, +1/+2 gear, etc) for your half-orc when races go on sale.

If you don't delete your first character and make a drow, I think you'll need to buy the following as they go on sale:

1 more character slot
the half-orc race
It would make sense to buy the shared bank and extra bank slots too for your half-orc when they go on sale.

I'm new to the game, but my guy has been playing for years and he says it's rewarding if you can be frugal and patient like other posters advocated.

Not sure what it costs in terms of dollars. Maybe $15? Closer to $10 perhaps. The better deal is half-orc/half-elf together, but that's probably overkill, since you only want half-orc.

I'm definitely happy staying premium.

When you buy points, you become premium. You get the following other benefits:
Access to the forums
unlimited auction house posts
fewer general chat restrictions in game (most people never see this)
more plat capacity on your character (I think)
4 character slots, instead of 2.
No recurring costs.

Well worth it, IMHO
