View Full Version : would it be worth it to splash for evasion on a 2handed fighting warchanter?

Was just wondering, the reason why I would like to go 2handed fighting is because well less resources, also would like to try a warforged bard, and warforged get 2handed power attack enhancements.

So would a 14/4/2 bard fighter rogue go well or a 16 bard 2 fighter/2 rogue be better?

Go with 4 fighter or 2 fighter depends on your build!
1 more feat from 4 fight against lv 6 spell from 2 fight!
My opinion is, thinking at your THF line, to go 2 fight and 2 rogue (I've this strange feel that TWF need more feat than THF)!
Anyway u should think that go with 2 rogue level even provide u the possibility to disable trap (priceless) and not only evasion ;)

PS: if u could (but this is just my opinion) if u want to built a WC better use a H-Orc than a WF!

Evasion is only useful if you can reach a high enough Ref save. If you start with 8 Dex, it will probably be hard to reach it, even if bards have a good basis.

FYI, AFAIK the WF & HO PA enhs apply to all weapons, not just 2H ones; you may be thinking about the Great Weapon Aptitude enhs, which boost glancing blows but only if you've got the THF feats.

If you are only splashing for evasion, probably not. If you like the utility that being fully trap capable brings, it's worthwhile. I've got a 16bard/2fighter/2rogue I'm leveling right now that is a Half Orc. Evasion is pretty much useless as the reflex save on that character suffers (dumped dex more or less). Being fully trap capable has it's advantages however while leveling. With top notch gear even epic traps are within reach. Depends really on what you are looking for.

I am leveling up a 16/2/2 Bard Fighter Rogue, but to have evasion work leads one more to TWF since both need a higher dex. Also the main reason for splashing fighter is extra feats. My toon is human though for yet another feat, healing amp, etc.

What others said, especially Cow.

Also it is worthwhile to note that evasion (with an acceptable reflex save) is very useful in Epic VoN for facinating bases.

on the one hand a lot of 2hf builds dump dex making evasion less viable. On the other hand, just because you go 2hf doesn't mean you *have* to dump dex.

So, either have a decent dex, say 14 or so, grab a +6 item and +2 tome at the least to get to 22. Another option is go dwarf with say, 12is or more dex: they get +1 saves vs spells innate and can add up to another +3 from enhancements. Every +1 is equivalent to 2 extra dex worth of reflex saves vs spells, so thats up to 8 points of dex worth of saves vs spells.

I've got a thf bard with 20 dex and open lock. I don't have any regrets. I doubt it's worth going 4 fighter on a thf build.

This can't be over-stated - having evasion to do epic Von6 is so nice. It is also possible to get very good AC, evasion, full trap skills and do a decent amount of damage with a 16/2/2 build.

Good luck!

"Typical" TWF builds start with 15 dex and eat a +2 tome for 17 dex.
17 dex gives a +3 modifier

Even with dumped dex (8) giving -1 modifier, the difference is only 4, or 20% difference in failure rate on a d20.

So YES it is worth taking evasion on THF simply because bards get reflex as a strong save.

Wear a +6 dex item. Eat +2 dex tome (or even +3 or +4 if you really care). Get the +2 dex ship buff, wear a +6 or +7 dex item. Get a +4 or +5 resistance item

Once you have GH/songs/buffs you will save nearly 100% of the time.

My bard is 18/2 TWF with evasion. I save on everything but a 1. Even if you start with 8 dex you will save 80% of the time at the very worst and probably much more often than 80%.

If I may suggest trying a Barb 4, bard 14, and rouge 2. War chanter of course.

What do you get for it? Well, great evasion with the barb +6 evasion clicky.

At 16th level (I tr'd) I've got a str of 30, dex of 22, con of 28, and a chr of 22.

When I rage and use either the cookie or the gloves of titans grip I break str 40...

Combined with a minII great axe he goes through trash without noticing.

When fighting bosses my biggest problem is drawing aggro.

Double strike, gs axe, str 40+.... Can of whoop ***...

You can look at Mysteryo on sarlona on the ddo chr look up.

Lots of fun, although I suggest you buy a bunny hat for the extra umd so you can scroll heal with 100% chance of success.

Also helps with jump, a very useful skill to get at mages in the back ranks...
