I finally decided to roll a rogue...

I decided to forgo the obvious assassin builds, and go with a gimped mechanic, inspired by the "repeater rogues unite" thread. So far, I am enjoying her (yes, her) very much. she is quite a bit of fun, though not at all soloable (I understand that would change once I craft a rad2 xbow). I am still practicing the whole getting sneak attacks thing, as it seems I have to be quite close for it go off.

My projected dex is
17+2lvlup +2tome + 3 rogue +6 item = 30
after some ToDs: + 1 exception +2 exceptional +1 human = 34
after some more grinding +1 tome(+3) +1 litanny = 36
which seems respectable, though not super high (I am putting 3 lvl ups into int for damage).

which would put my attack bonus at 15+(10-13)+5 wep + 4 gh = 34-37.

I have a capped monk, a TR'd fighter, and a soon to be capped TR melee FvS, all of which have (much) higher attack bonuses (FvS has some nice enhancements, and of course divine favor/power always on)

my question is, do you need to keep divine power clickies around and keep it on at all times for that extra +5? I am only lvl 8, but I seem to miss a fair bit. I am using a +4 light repeater with house D +3 bolts (I know it doesn't stack, but they are fairly cheap, and I sometimes switch to a ghost touch, holy, or +1 keen xbow).

TL;DR: do you find that as a rogue you need to use divine power clickies at high levels to hit effectively?

I'm no expert on mechanics or repeaters. But most melee-focused rogues have a very high attack bonuses when sneak attacking due to a combination of gear and enhancements.

Due to the extremely short range that a ranged weapon can make a sneak attack, you're not getting those bonuses until the mob is very close. If you're not hitting, try moving to within sneak attack range so your Backstab item and your Sneak Attack Training enhancement will kick in.

Your AB will eventually be high enough that you won't miss on anything other than certain epic mobs. Once you have Greater Heroism, a +5/+8 backstab item, Sneak Attack Training IV, +8 to your main stat, and 5 level-up points, you should be fine...but move to within sneak attack range!

There's some good low level AB gear you can get from Korthos Island, so if you're not wearing that, you can give it a try. Also, find a guild with the Training Dummy on the boat.

Before I was able to reliably UMD Greater Heroism scrolls, wearing the Raven's Eye and Anger's Wrath/Pathfinder set together provides a stacking +4 bonus to-hit, though it takes up quite a lot of gear slots that might be better spent elsewhere. After then, I just UMD the scrolls and pray for clickies, and for particularly ornery bosses there's also stacking Divine Power clickies. :p

Cursespewing or Destruction items also helps. The former can spawn on your x-bows, but the latter doesn't need a save.

Try my method, sneak in real close and use your melee weapon to get a sneak attack in, bluff and repeat, then back off in a hustle, unloading with your repeater. Gets me in and out of combat in a flash and rips things to shreds.

Only when I have aggro/am soloing, or else the very rare incredibly high AC target or a combination of all of the above while wielding a +1 stat/debuff set of weapons. Cursespewing, or ideally, improved cursespewing is quite handy as well (as mentioned), and it should be quite a lot easier to carry dozens of situational weapons for a ranged character than a twf, so this is a good thing to keep an eye out for.

But, yeah: I always carry a clicky or two (with 5x charges) of divine power around with me. Actually I prefer to carry a caster who holds things (that have a high AC) for me if I have to end up with aggro, but that's not always doable ;)

Dont waste valueable combat time with going into "sneak mode". Totally unnecessary for getting sneak attacks.

not while soloing. If you have someone around to soak up the damage than yeah by all mean let them take the hate and then murder the **** out of the mobs. But in solo you gotta use a little finesse.

make yourself some radiance wpns. i dual wield rad2 rapiers and when they crit (rolls of 15+) they blind the targets, allowing my sneak attack damage. you can easily use ur bluff skill to draw monsters one by one and then kill with rad2 wpns.
but its up to u with what u want to use as any class.
i prefer a dps/good hp/epic trap/search rogue with assassinate dc 41+.....

if ur not having fun then do what sum other ppl r doing.....get to a high lvl somehow and then farm the shroud for scales and trade for hearts til u find a build u like. since they r floating around alot nowadays. just a thought there for u.
