I think they are because Purple Named monsters are immune to all instant death effects.

That and my Rapier could never hack through a dragons neck in one swipe!

No.

But red and purple named are immune and all dragons currently in the game are red or purple named.

Dragons? No

Red and Purple Named mobs? Yes.

Guess what Dragons have been.

Not particularly however every dragon we have in the game has red/purple named immunity to insta death effects inluding vorpal. Should we ever get a non red named dragon it would be subect to vorpal.

No, but all red/purple named mobs are and all the dragons in DDO happen to be boss mobs...

Here is the DDO Wiki page on the Dragons type, which is applied to all Dragons:

Note other peoples' comment about named monsters, in various colours, though.

I like the idea of keeping Dragons fairly "special"...vorping them by the dozens would be pretty lame. I do hope when they bring in a Green Dragon, their quest gets populated by trash in the dragon-family (obviously not draconians, but half-dragons or the like).

I understand Jabberwockies get purple damage from vorpals...

Snicker-snack!

Thanks for the replies. I saw A vorpal longsword of GDB on the AH for really cheap and then remembered that we have no trash dragons, so I thought I would ask.

Think it'd be interesting to see, say a Blue Wyrmling or two (CR4's) show up in lower-level quests. So they're not the SUPER CRAZY OH MY GOD! dragons, but they allow for every phase of the life cycle to be seen, and keep dragons from just being juvenile+ when they appear, and thus relegated to only being purple-named.

Imagine a quest in which we go to Argonnessen, totally filled with dragon enemies of all sizes, shapes, and colors. Maybe even some of those evil metallics that live in Eberron.

Hi All,

Sorry for the slight derail, but your thread title brought back fun memories from PnP days gone by.

First edition AD&D game, a rather annoying player insisting that vorpals worked on dragons (after his natural 20 roll of course) and became so argumentative about it that I decided to allow it (as circumstances prevented me from just chucking him out).

So I ruled that as the only place he could be standing to reach the dragons neck was directly under it, I dropped 3/4 tonne of dragon head on him, killing him instantly :-)

Be careful what you wish for.

Wolf
