Hello Fellow Gamers!!!

Really wanted to see the varying responses to this from newbies to experienced players!! Which class either PURE or multi-class (and what corresponding levels & skills) is BEST in your opinion and why???!!!??? This goes from just starting out with NO MONEY or guild/friend help to making it to level 20 and being a powerful force against foes! Just wanted to review some thoughts and opinions AND WHY! Thanks for what I'm sure will be controversial input! Good gaming!

OH COME ON!!!

There is NO best class / multi class. It all depends on the player..... AND every GOOD player has their* favorite!

(If U want to make GOOD drama I will help.);)

*Sorry THEIR not there...LOL

TRUE!! So I reread my phrasing and edited the question. The reasoning behind it is that I may actually change my opinion or see a different viewpoint that I hadn't considered before. I realize gaming style, preference, etc... dictates the players' choices (including race, alignment, etc...). I just wanted to read some good viewpoints from other gamers that's all. I'm NOT trying to say there is a right or wrong answer...but there could be some good cases made that I hadn't considered before and it may even help improve my gameplaying if I see why someone took a ranger or monk or whatever and can state why. That's all.

The problem with this line of questioning is that it is only opinion, there will never be a definitive answer.

Why:

1. You have those who believe in being able to do it all (and Well)
2. Niche fillers
3. Roll-players
4. Uber 3l33ts
5. Those with DnD background - Those who never played

The most honest answer to this question that I can give you:

The Class(es) that YOU like to play. If you don't like it, you won't have fun, therefor if a game is not fun and your not being forced to play, then why play it?

Monk is best pure.

But its also good as 2 splashed for Evasion and for clerics and Fvs increased AC*since monks get AC bonus from their wis Mod when defensively centered*

I see Ranger Being put in 6 alot for the natural TWF and ITWF they get along with the PrE Tempest that they provide.

but really, any combination of classes could Turn out great. you basicly have to use the classes base Enchantments and natural abilities to see how it best fits into your build.

*note*
just because every class can be good doesnt mean that it is good.. That 19barb/1sorc, 8fighter/5wizard/2monk, 11fighter/5fvs you see running around are most likly gimp even with twink gear. But be open to the possibility that they might be good*just dont accept them in your party if your planning on doing somthing challenging unless you know em*

I think that a pure FvS (casting or melee oriented) is about as good as it gets as far as sheer power and survivability.

As far as multi-classing,I've never played one but from what I've seen a 18 wiz/2 rogue seems brings alot of goodies to the table.
So evasion splashes are neat,or fighter if you want to shoot for twf but are hurting for feats.

Now,best for a group in general?
Probably some kind of bard, maybe a pure 20 spellsinger or some kind of 16/2/2 virtuoso.

Just my 2 cp.

I see Ranger Being put in 6 alot for the natural TWF and ITWF they get along with the PrE Tempest that they provide.

This is obsolete. Prior to update 5, tempest 1 offered +10% attacked speed while Two-Weapon Fighting (Plus a dash of resist energy and rams might), at the cost of 3 feats (but gaining TWF and ITWF for free, so net loss of one feat). Now, however, tempest I offers a measly +10% offhand proc chance.

Tempest II is the new Tempest I. Why? Free GTWF (And the ability to have a starting dex of 13, or even less if you take your ranger levels later and are willing to spend a tome, saving you several build points!), a healthy variety of useful buffs, Evasion, free bow feats, and 100% offhand proc chance! Sure its not as good as it used to be, but its still something.

Also, to the OP: There is no best class, there is no "best" build. Some builds offer some very niche group roles (Such as DPS or Crowd Control), others are more generalist (Lower DPS, but higher survivability and ability to perform multiple functions). And some of these builds come out higher than others, strictly by the numbers. But no build is "the best". Well, except pure human 20 cleric, with radiant servant, casting focused.

There is not best just opinions.

Here's mine:

Pure it's monk. Incredible offense, defense and utility.

Multi-classed currently I'd have to go with the Helves Angel build. Just capped one and it brings some serious DPS.

Yes

you may wish to phrase the question in more limiting terms. 'What build is best at [insert some random build objective]?'

or 'What build made you fall in love with DDO?'

such may perhaps give you a better selection of answers, or at least more what you are looking for.

you may also find toleros recent blog (http://my.ddo.com/tolero/2011/01/14/the-best-multiclass/) post of interest

How's the Angel comparing to the Blitz Dark? I'm still considering it for a TR life lol.

I'll jump on the "there is no best" band wagon. It is a real testament to how well balanced this game is that every class, not necessarily every build, is worth playing. In over a decade of playing MMO's I don't believe I've seen another game that has done as good a job keeping all classes playable and interesting.

The best class is the one I'm currently playing now.

Which means, as I have 4 active characters, 4 different classes. One of which I hate playing, and only touch with guildies and intend to TR after capping and grabbing some gear for the next life, depending on what I'm actually going to run.

Dont forget a lot of builds rely on gear, when new gear comes out, or gear is changed you can often see builds changing to reflect this. Also when game mechanices ect change, like 2wf nerf, and when enhancements are changed, tempest nerf. And also when new races are introduced, horc's helves.

Well, my favorite is Rangers.

Melee, ranged, skills, buffs, evasion, stealth, Ref save. A lvl of Rog splashed for UMD is probably better than pure. And if you splash one lvl, you might as well splash a lvl of something else too. Mnk prob being the most gain. So Rgr18/Rog1/Mnk1 maybe the best IMO. Although there really is no best. It's just the class that has the most of things I value in the game.

Add me to the *there's no correct answer to your question* group. It's all relative to what you enjoy and/or your playstyle.
With that in mind:

from just starting out with NO MONEY or guild/friend help to making it to level 20 and being a powerful force against foes!
Are you talking about "no money" in game, or "no money" spent on the game?
If the former, I'll echo Dark's cry of Monk. Good offense, reliable defense and utility, and they require very little gear to get any of that compared to many classes.
If the latter, I'd say THF Fighter or Barbarian. They'll miss out on much of the Monk's defense and utility, but offer great offense to contrast, and again it takes little gear to be effective.
In any case, it will take gear to excel, but these will be "good enough" while spending the least amount of cash, in game or out, that they can then fund future characters that may be more gear dependent.

I guess I should mention that I'm primarily a rogue multiclass player. But gearing him up without any plat, and keeping that gear level appropriate without any plat can be a pain, which is why I didn't list rogues there.

The best Class or Multiclass (for you) is the one that best reflects your play style.

For me:
18 Ranger/2 Paladin Drow or;
18 Paladin/2 Monk Drow GTWF Intimitank.

Wrong, monks get wis bonus even though they are not centered

The best class is math class.

It might be hard and abstract, and it can seem horribly tedious at times, but in the end its the one that gives you the best monetary returns regardless of your eventual career in life.

I disagree, that would be subatomic/nuclear/particle physics classes ... you get all the math plus you get to blow stuff up in a really big way

Pure: Wizard, Barbarian, Monk, Paladin

Multi: Melee Ranger, Fighter

Splash: Rogue, Monk

Honestly, the game is slowly reaching the point with capstones and etc where the benefits of playing it pure outweigh many multiclass builds.
