Sometimes i get sad watching lfms. If you put up a lfm for lets say levels 14 to 17 writing "for xp" and expecting to get people to join for a level 15 quest on normal, dont have your friend/guildie whos level 18 be in your group - you just look stupid.
Either you put up the lfm for levels 15 to 18 and remove the "for xp", or you find something better to do.

some people are just too stupid/lazy to update the lvl range.Just drop if that happens again

Actually I find it more frustrating to see an LFM for 14-17 and then find lev 13's in it. That just (generally) shows a piker/dead-weight.....

I'm pretty chill about a lot of the LFM things that bug people (want me to link my weapons? fine, whatever), but level ranges can definitely bother me.
If your level range can result in powerlevel penalty, unless it's explicitly intended as a non-xp run (high level Reaver's, favor/loot runs, etc.), I will not be joining even if I wouldn't be powerleveled. I view it as a warning.
It also bothers me when people make nonsensical level ranges in xp runs (includes quest level + 2 or more, when noone in the party is that high, or stops at quest level or below when there's noone that would be powerlevel'd by a quest level + 1 character). That's more of a "tell for clarification".

Sometimes I get sad watching people try to do something and failing at it. I mean something simple, like spelling on the LFM or sending a tell to a party leader and missing the point of the need of the group. An example of the latter would be a Fighter asking to joing a Monk, Ranger, 2 Rogues and a Barbarian for a quest that is rather difficult without steady healing.
I've become accustomed to being disappointed and do a little butt dance of joy and triumph on behalf of those that do indeed try and succeed. :)

Actually the worst thing that happens is when a newbie joins and gets a 50% xp hit and dont even know it till hes half way through the quest - in addition to the 25% everyone else gets.

Along that line, the one they really sets off my warning bells are the ones where the leader is obviously trying to get himself carried through a group. I know TRs can be more powerful, but TRs don't want the higher level characters in group, so when I see a lvl 13-16 and the leader is 13... I avoid it like the plague.
Respect the time limit. That is the most important thing.

the ones that crack me up for this are the chronosphere loot runs set up by someone approx level 6 or 7, with up to 20 in the lfm.. pretty much screams to me "i want free stuff!"

More frustrating is when that same LFM shows a lvl20 in the group. So much for any XP.
On Ghallanda, I've seen that so often I've given up on expecting groups for XP. I mostly grab a hireling and solo through lvl10. If I get a few groups along the way, it's nice, but not expected anymore. Seriously, a Chrono raid with 6-9 in the LFM, XP specifically mentioned in the LFM, and they take a lvl18. ***?

While we are complaining about levels and groups. Let me say.
I put up a group for the lighthouse harbor quest (properly advertised) with my level 6 Fighter and it quickly filled. We got into the quest and 3 of the guys immediatly complained about doing a level 2 quest.
Hey geniuses, don't complain when you join a group that runs the quest it was advertising to be run.
If you do not want to run a level 2 quest, go join a group running something else.

There is another problem with your example.
A Level 15 quest on normal means the max level should be 16 for no XP penalty. Inviting a Level 17 character would reduce XP for everyone by -10%.
Step 1: Set the max level = level of quest+1.
Step 2: Set the min level = max level-3 (or -2 to reduce piking/non-contributors)
Step 3: Profit!

I was just coming here to say the same thing. I'll settle for: Salutations Be Comfortable.
Edit: what am I saying, I could never post anything as short as that...
OP you're completely correct. If the LFM you're looking at has a level range, and you're outside it, don't apply to join before sending a /tell to the leader.
Additionally - and this is very much a note to self here - if you forget to check the LFM beyond the fact *you're* eligible to join and you join and find there are characters in there who will gimp your XP but who were also in the correct level range.... don't moan about it in /party or voice. It's your own fault, you noob.
