View Full Version : Bloodstone vs Shimmering Arrowhead

I understand the differences between the two items, inlcuding ML and the fact that the Arrowhead is BtC.
My main question is this: would I bother equipping a Bloodstone at end-game, once I had the Arrowhead? (Does the +2 seeker difference make that much of a difference?)
Thanks in advance.

Unless you need the + to-hit in order to hit monsters in epics, then the bloodstone is a straight upgrade, why wouldn't you use it?

Don't have a Bloodstone yet, but I do have the Arrowhead. So I was wondering if I could stop farming Bloodstones. ;)
Guess I'll keep on farming...thanks.

well the +2 to hit doesn't stack with say spec gloves or certain bard songs or epic fighting leathers, it really depends on your gear. Most peeps roll with the Bloodstone because they either have the +too hit somewhere else or they don't need it. It's too situational for a direct answer, tell us your planned end game gear and we could better help you with your decision.

To be brutally honest, I don't have a list of planned end game gear.
Maybe that should be my next step...hehehe.
Thanks.

If you didn't max str, or have low bab you might get more use out of the arrowhead. Also the arrow is easier to pull than the bloodstone IMO.

Are you ranged?
If you are, crippling is nice - especially when **** hits the fan and you have to crowd control.

the +2 to hit doesn't stack with several common end-game gear sets, most notably the Spectral Gloves.
Regarding the difference of +2 seeker... it's more damage, and it helps in auto-crit situations even more since you are critting and you are multiplying your damage. How important is it? That's certainly up for interpretation, if you look at this recent thread, for example:
http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=296729
You can see that the downgrade from epic bloodstone (+8 seeker) to bloodstone (+6) decreased the dps by a calculated -1.4%. This was using an eSOS (a crit dependent weapon) on a barb (lots of crit bonuses), in non-autocrit situations. Still I think it is save to say that at most the contribution of the extra +2 seeker is about 1.4%.

...isn't any higher bonus better than a lower bonus?
Wait...I'm in a MELEE thread. Eew.

@Crazyfruit - I'm a FvS (Lord of Blades build). I use ranged very situationally.
@Aristarchus1000 - Thanks for the thread...I'll check that out.
@Hityawithastick - Yeah...I think this is why I'm gonna keep farming for a Bloodstone.
Thanks again all...much appreciated.

Why not? Not trolling, really curious. I have lists (either partial or full) for most of my characters.

Precious uses the Arrowhead even though he has a bound Bloodstone and bound Spectral simply because it frees up his gloves. The ability to throw heal scrolls without having to swap gloves or hit a skill boost > +2 seeker.
Of course, he rarely fills a melee spot, and so no one really cares.

Gear changes just about every update now as new areas become epic and new items are added. What was once an ideal end game piece of equipment for one of your characters could be made obsolete or outdated, or other key equipment combinations could become available.

Unless you always range and almost never mêlée, bloodstone is better. If you mostly range, then I think they're about comparable.
BUT the shimmering arrowhead is far more easily obtained, which is a major advantage ;)

With the introduction of charged gloves, are the spectral gloves such an automatic "gotta have" anymore?

If you have a bard in your party:
Bloodstone > Arrowhead
, as they +2 to hit is superseded by the bardsongs, leaving the Arrowhead simply inferior at +4 seeker compared to +6 seeker.

bloodstone can be epic'd, the main reason i farm that instead of arrowhead for my melees. that and the ML is lower as well as droprate being arguably higher

If you have both an Arrowhead and a Bloodstone, I reccomend wearing the Arrowhead.
Why?
...because that way, you can pass the Bloodstone off to one of your other characters that needs a Bloodstone.
If you have one Bloodstone for each of your melee characters, then you have an entirely different dilemma. :)
