I enjoy PvP. Call me immature, taunt my epeen, whatever, but I do get a certain satisfaction when I defeat another player. Sometimes the only way to express the joy is with a well timed corpse hump. But all this aside, DDO is not the place for this.
I recently decided to venture into the Lobster to check the state of PvP in DDO. I went in with a fighter. There were a few people in the pit so I jumped in. I was quickly hit with many spells and died fast. Fair enough, next I buffed up and chose a target. I picked a warforge that looked like a caster, I wasn't sure because he had so many buffs it went off my screen and I could not see his class when I inspected him. I charged him, made it to him, tripped him, and killed him. Soon after the other people around me burned me out once again. No problem, but then the tells started, the warforged wanted to know why I was such a jerk and why I would kill him with a lvl 19 character, he was only lvl 11! So I did what anyone would do, charge him again. This time I didn't make it there, I was shot in the back by an arcane archer and saw the dreaded 500 damage hit.
I stayed for a while and jumped in numerous times, I also loaded in other classes and tried them out. My conclusion is that DDO is not the game for PvP. It's true that the classes are not balanced, it's true that the PvP area is too small, but it should not be changed.
The same things that make PvP horrible in DDO are the same things that make the PvE amazing. Would I like to have the perfect game with great PvE and PvP, who wouldn't? But it will never happen, it can't. DDO does not follow arbitrary rules, it follows rules that assume everyone will be working together. To balance classes in any way would break the game.
I am to the point of acceptance and will play another game to get my PvP fix, but when I want to play the best PvE in the industry, I will be back to DDO. I encourage other people that enjoy PvP but want DDO to overhaul the game to accept reality. Instead of begging for DDO to become a PvP friendly game, play something else.
