As title, there's no warning that the Katra's wit which starts out BTA will, in contradiction to most other items would suddenly become BTC instead.
Would've been nice to know that the character you crafted it on needed to be the one you wanted it to stay on.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but first take a look back at all crafting in the game. Whether you are using the stone of chance to put force critical on an item, or making your greensteel, typically the base item will not be BtC but the upgraded version WILL. You need to bound/attune an item for the stone of change and once you craft that first tier on your greensteel it becomes BtC, so it sort of keeps with that train of thought. Base item? Not bound. Upgraded? Bound.

I checked DDOwiki (http://ddowiki.com/page/Cauldron_of_Sora_Katra) when the items first came out:
"The Cauldron of Sora Katra is the Crafting device for items with the Fusible, Malleable, Fragmented, or Battle-Scarred attributes. These items come from quests added in Update 7 and Update 8. You can find it in the Lordsmarch Plaza.
Note that the non-upgraded versions of most of these items are Bound to Account on Acquire and the upgraded Battle-Scarred items are all Bound to Character on Acquire while the weapons will become Bound to Character on Equip (and start unbound, so you can craft and then trade/sell a weapon). Also, if you want to swap the +5 stat versions of the Wrath of Sora Kell Set items between your account via the Shared Bank, you shouldn't upgrade them. "
I've started researching crafting more closely since I got burned with a set of Mabar handwraps - they were BtA on Lamannia. When the event hit the live servers, I didn't think to check for changes, so I crafted a set for my monk - using my cleric, to whom they are BtC. Luckily, I noticed before going beyond the first tier, so it wasn't like I lost anything of value.

Risia – Unbound.
While the game is getting a little better about binding warnings, it seems there is some room to improve.

You really didn't look before you leapt did you? I've made a few items out of that same cauldron and most actually lose their BTA when you upgrade them and become BTC on equip.
Check your info before you respond in future please.

Thanks for checking your info before responding unlike others....
It would seem DDO wiki is correct but there's nothing in-game to suggest this change in binding attributes and not everyone necessarily checks wiki about everything they do, nor should they need to.

I seem to remember getting a message before actually pushing the button to upgrade those items. I'll do another to see if that was or was not the case.

The in-game info is slowly getting better - some end rewards and chest items now at least tell you what type of binding will occur (BtC or BtA). I would like the item info to hover in the crafter (just like it does in your inventory), so you can review the full set of attributes before crafting. Right now, there's DDOwiki, and that's all.
I wasn't around when greensteel was first introduced, but I recall reading a comment a while ago that led me to understand that players had to figure out greensteel crafting by trial and error, and that it took a while (and a lot of wasted ingredients) for all of the recipes and effects to be figured out. If so, the new crafting is simple and cheap in comparison.

It was moments before my first post that I encountered this, I'm quite certain there's no warning. :)

I read the post to which I replied, tyvm.
It referred to the stone of change. The risia crafting, however, does not bind an item. I was telling a different story.
The inconsistency between crafting/upgrading systems is a usability issue that should be addressed by the developers.

Indeed. Someone who hasn't done any other crafting(certainly possible, all I've done is risia, mabar, and only recently eldritch and whatever sentinels is called) than risia, going to other crafting systems they would bring with them the notion that crafting does no binding changes whatsoever. I myself was surprised when I upgraded winter's wrath or whatever from sentinels and it turned out btc. Monk has no use for wand :/

There is(or used to be?) a post somewhere by a DEV that states all crafted items will be BTC. Although if you dig enough you can find info like this, it really should be in the game. There is no good reason to not have it built into the structure of the game. And sadly, most of the information about this game can only be found outside of it.

Yeah, it's annoying. My personal feeling (and if you search you can find a thread on this topic) is that I won't likely ever make a BTC set.
The increase in attributes is nice, but given how they fall on some pretty nice slots (head, ring, gloves) I have a hard time justifying the +1 attributes and BTC over BTA. They are a great set as-is, but not something I'll use end-game ... and since they aren't useful in that way, it makes far more sense to me to keep a few sets in the bank to hand to new toons leveling up.

Thanks also to the fool who neg repped post 5 above without saying why.
Won't bother asking for it to be removed, never happens even if you ask and it's inappropriate anyway...
