Im pretty new to DDO, and ive never played the actual board game. so a lot of the time, i find myself clueless as to certain strengths or weaknesses of builds. so i want advice from as many people as possible for the best builds for-
1) a solo Barbarian.
2) a Crowd Control wizard.
3) a tank paladin.
4) a Bard.
i also need to know the best possible races for each one.
Im a V.I.P. for now, so i have that advantage, but i would also like to know the best builds for free players too!
Thanks, and i hope we get good stuff on here!!!
1. Barb can be kind of hard to solo, but if you do want to solo i would recomend WF, this allows you to have all of the immunities so it is a big bonus not having to buy all of the extra gear/pots
2. for a CC wiz i would recomend drow or WF, drow will get you an extra 1 DC to spells but WF will gain the self healing bonus.
3. For tank pallys i like human or dwarf, dwarf will give you extra HP but human will get you extra feat and more skills, and a +2 cha over dwarf for DM3 or 4.
4. ATM i am lvling a human bard that is very good, so human atm is my choice for bard
Gl with what you chose

1) If you want a solo barbarian I would make a WF FvS like the Soul Survivor (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=268346). It plays like a barbarian if you like but it can actually solo :)
2) WF is probably the best choice if you are new to DDO. I would only suggest drow on a very well geared/twinked or TR'd (WF Wizard and then TR'ing into a drow sorcerer is a good idea that a friend has done).
3) Human or dwarf is definitely the best choice. WF or Half-orc are options too if you want to go more on the hate side of tanking (which is much easier the first time around)
4) Bard is harder, what sort of bard do you want to play? CC? DPS? Something inbetween? If you are already settled on a CC wizard then I would go for some flavour of DPS Bard. Either a pure warchanter or a splashed virtuoso.
I'd check out the builds here: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=232660
They are new player friendly builds that are viable (even often quite optimal) at level 20.

My two cents...
1. Barbarians don't solo that well. The best solo characters have some form of self-healing, or at least can use healing wands, since they're so much cheaper than potions. You might consider a rogue splash for evasion - there are several builds that incorporate this. Your best bet, though, is to take along a cleric hireling. Human and Dwarf are your best options.
2. I can't really give you advice here, except to note that WF wizards are really popular. There's probably a reason for that.
3. I've tried making tanks, and I've tried making paladins. I've deleted them all. It's probably not what you want to hear, but I'd say don't bother. Tanks are almost never needed anyway.
4. Bards come in several flavors, so I'll just link you to a couple of good guides. Human and Drow are the likely options here (Drow are squishier, and don't gain all that much on humans anyway).

This one has solid beginner builds for just about every class. I've yet to be disappointed by it.

1. Are you including a hireling in your definition of soloing? Assuming you are, a barbarian is a barbarian. Sure, there are many styles and builds to choose from, but it's not very relevant in terms of solo ability. If you aren't, then no, barbs are not good soloers. They have little self-healing, and tend to eat a lot of damage.
2. CC wizard: I have to disagree with the drow recommendation, unless you're restricted to 28 point builds. If you have 32 points, the only advantage a drow has is +1 int over humans/helfs, and +2 int over the other races. WF is okay, but there are some disadvantages to using WF. I can explain if you like, but for now, suffice it to say that imo a WF wizard is not better than other races. It's simply play style.
3. Paladins are very starved in terms of ability scores; in fact, a tank's only true dump stat is wisdom. Be aware that paladin tanks are not easy for new players, especially if you aren't ready to tome your butt off.
4. I personally enjoy spellsingers, but warchanters are quite good too.
Let me know if you want me to toss you any sample builds.
