So far I have only seen the explosive part go off once after landing several curses on targets and waiting the eight seconds to see what happens. They run after me with the swirly above them, but no explosion, except the one time and the thing just disintegrated so it was pretty cool. Is there another save in there that isn't mentioned or seen as failed?

This spell showed up in a previous update as well. According to dev, it was unintended, as in, it's a boss/mob spell but was not intended to be implemented as one of our spells. Explosive curse is actually working as bestow curse. If you take a look at your spell book again, you'll see you don't have bestow curse. I can drag up the thread if you want, but it's there somewhere...
In a nutshell, explosive curse doesn't exist for us. explosive curse = bestow curse.

Interesting, except it seems to still work either very rarely or only the first time you land a curse because that was the one time it went off.

....no. It's "Curse." NOT "Explosive Curse."
Players cannot cast Explosive Curse. That's cast by mobs in Lordsmarch chain, any possibly others.
The mob that you cursed, then disappeared was probably hit by a disintegrate from a friendly caster.
Sorry to burst your bubble - there is no such thing for players to cast.

I'm pretty sure I saw an "Explosive Curse" in my list of Cleric spells last night while setting up spells for my lowbie Cleric. I believe it was Level 2, and it stuck in my mind because I didn't recall seeing it before Update 8 (though it's been a while since I've had a cleric looking at Level 2 spells, so it could have been there before that.) I can't get in-game at the moment to check, would like some confirmation.

I find that very interesting, considering this item:

From the linked thread with the dev post:
"The bug is that you are seeing it replace the standard 'Curse' spell. The spell you cast is still curse. It's just an issue with the text."
Although items and the spells themselves SAY "Explosive Curse" the spell you cast is still just the normal "curse"

Look guys, I believe what Thoon said in that Dev post about the bug because I can't get it to do it again, but I know what I saw. I was alone and not attacking anything, just backpeddling and waiting and the Hobgoblin I cursed burned up like Capt. Terrell in Star Trek II. Same expression and everything.
